You might remember that if it had continued at the speed and direction it was travelling it was initially predicted to hit here early hours of last night (Thursday). But for some reason it has slowed and keeps changing direction (cyclones are notorious for that). Then you wouldn't have had your 3 days of fine, wind free days.

If you watched the news you would see that the Gold Coast and other areas have had trees blown over, power lines cut and roads cut due to fallen trees and heavy rain. I don't think they have had the 3 fine and wind free days you refer to. That could have been here in Brisbane yesterday if the cyclone had followed its predicted direction and speed. As at 6pm this evening there are almost 50,000 homes in the Gold Coast area without power and almost 60,000 across South East Queensland. Energex has said repairs would have to wait until the cyclone has passed which could be a few more days at its current speed. That means some people may not have power for a week. I don't think those people would have been complaining if they had had 3 days of fine wind free days instead!

Authorities can never win. In 2022 people complained because they weren't given enough notice prior to the flooding. Now people like you complain because you have had too much notice! Personally, I hope it turns into a real fizzer here but I won't be complaining about that because we would have dodged a bullet.
