Is it normal for posts to appear only after 24 ours later?

New members don't have their posts appear immediately - they are vetted. But after a few posts, don't know the exact number, they will appear immediately.

Another thing, after they appear, you can edit your previous posts. Handy if you catch a mistake after hitting enter. Edit will appear at the bottom of the post.

The far right symbol allows you to checkmark several posts to be quoted in a reply.
