View Full Version : Question Can't talk about it?

Has anyone else noticed that a few recently started threads commenting or complaining about shops bumping their reviews on the After Reports forum have quickly vanished?

One started yesterday is now gone, there was another one a few weeks ago that also quickly disappeared. It doesn't appear that talking about this breaks any of the listed forum rules, so why are the threads being deleted?

I wonder how long this one will last?

I mean I get it; this is a free forum for us punters, the shops keep the site going by paying for advertising. They should be able to advertise and promote their shops and services on the forums.

Whether it is appropriate and in the spirit of the forums for (some - not all of) the shops to continuously bump their ARs to the top of the list is debatable, given that there are whole forum sections (Rosters and Shop/Girl Info forums) that are designed for the purpose that many of the shops are using the AR section for.

It seems to have become almost a game of brinkmanship amongst certain shops to keep their ARs near the top of the list at the expense of others.

The detriment to the forum users is that new, relevant and possibly informative ARs quickly get knocked down out of sight unless they are about the really popular shops that don't need to bump (mostly Ginza), or the ones that the shops choose to bump. It is also frustrating when the threads being bumped up are sometimes months or even years old (there is at least one that is 10 years old that looks like it is still being regularly bumped to the top). In many cases multiple threads on the same girl are being bumped up together, and sometimes the ARs being bumped are on girls no longer or currently working at that shop.

As I said, I get it. The shops have the right to do it and are just trying to promote their businesses (as they should), the forum administrators have an interest in keeping the shops happy, and the dedicated forum user can simply sift through or sort the threads to find more relevant ones rather than just reading the ones at the top of the page if he wants (but many will not be bothered).

My question is - why can't we talk about it? What is the problem with forum users expressing their dissatisfaction (or approval) of this tactic? Or is there some other reason the previous threads were deleted?

For my part, I (mostly) refuse to read any of the ARs that are being bumped by the shops, and I'm inclined NOT to visit (out of principle) any shops using this tactic. Maybe my principles aren't very strong though, since I'm wavering on a few of the shops lol.

I realise that this very minor form of protest really only hurts me (potentially missing out) and not the shops, but still ... it's much more interesting, relevant and potentially useful to me to read current or recent reviews by my fellow punters, be they good or bad, honest or biased - than what the shops are pushing. Frankly, if I want to know the rosters or what the shops are promoting as the girls' info it is easy and more convenient to find that in the relevant forums on the site (and/or go directly to the shops' sites).

If it helps i go under thread display options in ARs and go sort threads by thread start time then press show threads to the left to update it which shows who started a thread today and not bumped by a shop, if anyone has other tips :D?

I just scan the pages with my eyeballs, looking for shops I visit, names I recognize, or titles that sound intriguing, and most often, the OTHER prefix. For shops/names/titles threads, I look at who was the last poster; more often than not, if it was the shop, I don't bother. Sure, you can miss some intel, but... that's life.

Filtering by prefix OTHER speeds things up too.

Yeah I also don't trust shops who keep bumping their 5 year old AR's. Hell there is even a shop that bumps a post in sydney general everyday that isn't even an AR to try stay relevant.

I don’t know how many times the forum has to explain this, shops bumping threads for advertising is the reason why you can use this site for free, because the shops pay for their right.

That said, the bumping is limited to 10 per shop per day, the excessive ones will be deleted, and the frequent violating shops will get a temporary ban, I’m sure many members would have noticed this.

So, instead of taking action about this sort of complaints, the thread will be deleted to avoid further action.

Nice explanation, thanks.

Are you a magician?

If you sort by "thread start time" instead of "last post time" you will see the latest reports.

Oh, I have many techniques to get me through the day... another is using the "Go Advanced/Preview Post" buttons to proofread and check that any links work... In some fields, accuracy is everything.

Correction in the quote supplied free of charge. With emoji  Cheers

Thanks for the detailed reply wilisno. As I noted a couple of times in my post I do understand the reasoning for it and why it won’t change. Although I couldn’t resist a bit of complaint, my main purpose was in understanding if and why threads discussing this issue get deleted. You have explained that to some extent.

I didn’t know about the ‘10 per day’ limit or penalties for exceeding. Thankyou for explaining.

Keep in mind that not everyone here has been on the forums for as long as you have, so although this may have been explained many times before, newer users will not easily be able to find this information - especially if any threads raising the question are deleted.

Rather than playing whack-a-mole with such threads, the admins should consider stickying an explanatory post or adding this to the forum rules thread (if such exists my apologies for not coming across it in my research prior to creating this thread). This might ACTUALLY ‘avoid further action’.

My 2c, your opinion may differ. Nothing wrong with that.

This arrangement has been the site’s policy since it started about 20 years ago. It’s like a new migrant coming into a country and demand the country to change the law to suit his culture or religion, that’s what we don’t want to see.

I guess that is that then.
