New phone, tried logging back into WeChat, using the SMS one time password thing, but then I get prompted 'enter your password for security reasons '. I have NFI the password I used, the only other alternative is to have my WeChat 'friends' (basically various brothels and massage shops around sydney) to confirm my identity.
Anyone got any tips for getting WeChat back?

IMPE, friends confirmed my identity. As I remember (several years ago), you did have to have a history of chatting with the verifying friends, 2 as I recall. The problem is contacting said friends without WeChat (SMS worked for me).

Otherwise, can you restore the app from a backup? Old phone still available? Backups and password managers... don't leave home without them.

Think I'll have to create a new account

Don't think you can create a new account if you're using the same mob number. The account is bound to your number.

The easiest way to recover it is to scan the QR code from the WeChat on your old phone. If you no longer have the old phone and WeChat there, the only way I can think of is to get 2 friends who were on your WeChat contacts to help verify you. You might to ask a shop to help you with that if you have them on your WeChat contacts lol

All my WeChat 'friends' were brothels and massage shops 😅 was v easy to sign up with new account and transfer over. Kinda defeated all the ott security measures

Went through the same problem last year. I used WeChat support. No idea when exactly it got fixed as they weren't the most responsive with it. Just started working again a couple days after I raised the ticket.
