First time, any advice?

Been looking around and I figured I'd take the plunge and go for my first visit. So I'm looking at a few places, mainly at 45 George, No 5 Marrickville and Penny's 77 since they're all walking distance from a station.
Any general advice for a first timer? maybe any WL recomendations at those stores to help lead around a beginner like me?
