1/ Having sex without a condom with a sex worker is an idiotic gamble. Not because sex workers are inherently unsafe or “dirty” that stereotype is nonsense. The idiotic part is knowingly choosing to remove an important layer of protection when there is no compelling reason to do so.

2/ People love saying, “But they get tested.” Great. Testing is important. But a test isn't a force field. People can acquire infections after their last test, some infections have window periods, and some STIs can exist without obvious symptoms.

3/ You also don't necessarily know what someone's complete sexual-health history looks like, just as they don't necessarily know yours. That's not an accusation against anyone. It's simply reality.

4/ And this applies far beyond sex workers. Having unprotected sex with a casual partner, a stranger, or anyone whose current sexual-health status you don't know carries avoidable risks. The fact that someone is a sex worker doesn't magically create those risks, the lack of protection does.

5/ What makes the decision especially stupid is that condoms are one of the easiest forms of risk reduction available. You don't need to be a medical expert. You don't need a complicated strategy. You literally just need to use one.
