last week I was loitering around the corner of George and Goulburn in the CBD, trying to get talk time with one of the girls working at the French bakery on the corner, and I spotted a new massage shop called "Dragon Fly Massage". I made a mental note to visit this place.
a few days ago I came good on my mental note and paid a visit to Dragon Fly Massage, on the west side of George street a few meters south of Goulburn street. up the proverbial staircase and greeted by a middle-age Japanese man sitting alone at a reception desk. He directed me to a very simple menu of 4 choices, of which I remember three: Thai Massage, Oil Massage and Aromatherapy Massage. I initially opted for 1 hour "Thai" massage which was $60. My host showed me to the interior which are walled rooms (floor-to-ceiling) with curtain entrance. The décor inside is Japanese style (minimalist). I did not know what to expect, but my general feel was that this is a legit shop.
In the Spartan room I took all clothes off and lay on the table with towel covering me. Within minutes a Japanese woman entered the room and we greeted each other. She started to do the massage and at this stage its too early to tell what kind of massage I can expect. After discovering that my muscles were obscenely tight especially my right side which suffers from serious mouse abuse, my masseuse suggested that I choose the oil massage instead. I asked a few questions and then agreed to pay an extra $20 to upgrade to "Oil" massage. She disappeared and returned moments later with oil. To cut to the chase, this Japanese woman went on to give me an excellent massage with very good pressure. I was benefiting so much from the body work, an hour was up and I had not even turned over. She asked if I wanted to extend time but I said that was enough for today and told her that I would visit for a longer session another day.
During the massage, inside was very quite (which I like) and they had this smooth drifting bamboo music playing. The mood inside was very peaceful, except when customers arrive, then you will hear the annoying and unnecessary electronic ding-dongs that announce their arrival. I heard a few customers arriving during the massage including one man with a German accent who seemed to be asking to see the ladies available. I could hear the Papasan explaining only massage...
Before leaving I tipped my masseuse $20 and checked in at reception to pay the additional $20. Total spend = $100.
The Japanese woman I saw said her name was Keiko, which in Japanese has about 7 meanings, including blessed, lucky, happy, respectful.
This shop is new and I look forward to a few more visits soon.
