Well, I was trying to stay out of this conversation as it has so many possible ways of going wrong.
But here goes anyway...
And please treat the terms below as medical term, as they are. They do not reflect any kind of opinion or view point I may have.


In the western world (US in particular, where political correctness is a real big thing) midgets, as in general nowadays prefer to be called "little people" (why, don't ask me).

The term in general refers to either to people with a particular genetic abnormality or just to people who are way shorter than the average. Sometimes it may be a result of dwarfism. But most of the time not, they are just shorter than the average.


Dwarfism occurs when an individual person or animal is short in stature resulting from a medical condition caused by abnormal (slow or delayed) growth. In humans, dwarfism is sometimes defined as an adult height of less than 147 cm (58 inches).
Dwarfism can be caused by about 200 distinct medical conditions, such that the symptoms and characteristics of individuals with dwarfism vary greatly. Disproportionate dwarfism is characterized by one or more body parts being relatively large or small in comparison to those of an average-sized adult, with growth variations in specific areas being apparent. In cases of proportionate dwarfism, the body appears normally proportioned, but is unusually small.

Please note, that the above is a quote from Wikipedia (which by definition is an open forum) and the height definition of an adult height of less than 147 cm is probably derived from western standards.

Also note that, that for a female of Asian descent to be under 147 cm, is nothing out of the the norm.
They may be under the average height, but that does no mean they have any particular 'medical condition' (as in signs of disproportionate dwarfism), they're just shorter than average.

For a female of Caucasian descent to be under 147 cm is not usual (at least within the last few decades), and they may have signs of disproportionate dwarfism.

All of the above aside, as a white dude who is 187 cm, I just love petite little Asian girls.
And it is not just the height. It's most often how they behave and present themselves.

I don't think you'll find a midget (by the definition of it) as a working girl in Sydney.
You may find many shorter than average girls (especially if comparing to average of the whole population).
