Attention all members,

Due to the recent allegation of members sending pm's or emails to other members, threatening to expose their activities here to their employers, Aus99 would like to stress that this is the most despicable behaviour on a forum and will not be tolerated. Members found to have breached this policy will be banned via the IP, meaning further registration will not be accepted.

In the meantime, we would like to inform members that we have a strong security firewall in place, your hidden registration details can not be retrieved illegally, unless you choose to display it. That said, if any member discovers that it can be done somehow, please let us know with evidence, so we can have our IT team to deal with it and rectify the problem.

Let's work together to make this a safe and enjoyable place to spend time in.

Cheers

P.S. HappyQwerty has been banned via IP.

If by some small chance you are still viewing this forum and this post HappyQ...stay down, become a friendly teddy bear not a malicious troll living under a bridge.

Instead of causing disruption, panic and fear with your hilarious private messages filled with empty threats you have instead united it in closing you down.

You'll never win. Enjoy life....I know I do. Hugs and kisses filled with love from your friend

Gucci ^_^

Would you mind sharing some technical details of the security measures implemented? I think some of us would be more comfortable knowing how our information is being protected.

Take a look from below. That's the software vendor's site.

No, once banned by IP, you can't even browse the site from that computer, unless you go elsewhere.

If the banned person is so determined to come back for more trouble, then he's well deserved to be banned in the first place !

Banning by IP is not a foolproof solution as the dipshit could be issued with a new IP. Also, if the dipshit was hiding behind a proxy, a bunch of unrelated people could be banned as well.

Unfortunately, there's no easy solution - without manual interventions.

Since this scum is threatening to expose users here, how about we turn the table around and use his own threats against him?

Well that's something, but the mod also mentioned a firewall, so a few details about that and maybe how the site is hosted would be interesting to see too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but many internet providers supply their home customers with dynamic IP addresses unless the customer specifically asks for a static IP address. (I think that most business accounts have static IPs)

If one has a dynamic IP, all one has to do is turn their modem/router on and off and you are assigned a new IP.
Also, if you have a wireless broadband modem like a usb dongle, that device is automatically assigned a new IP each time you plug it in and use it. I hope I'm not educating the trolls with this info, but judging by how many times these serial pests are reincarnating themselves, I am certain they already know this.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I agree that blocking IP addresses only has a limited effect.

The best way to keep these trolls in check is by increased vigilance by all and reporting unacceptable behaviour to the moderators. Of course I'm not suggesting that this should degenerate into serial complaining because we don't agree with other people's views, but I think that generally most posters and moderators would agree on what constitutes intolerable behaviour.

Just my few cents worth...

Yep, that's the way, work together to keep out the trolls !

Just that negative comments are always more popular than positive ones, and trouble makers always take that opportunity to start a war !

Yes expose him and gang rape him and write an ar about it.

I've noticed that most trolls don't do AR's. They either start lots of General Talk threads or drop numerous posts on all parts of the forum to boost post count. Does anyone have any other observations?
