The most recent unemployment number is 6.4%, a 12-year high, even higher than the U.S. which was hit hard during the financial crisis.
It is not your fault. It is the politicians who should be blamed. Throw them out of the office and stop the flow of hot money from China into the property market, then we can have a better life.

What types of jobs are you looking for?
There are loads of ways to make money. Check out airtasker where people offer $$$ for various jobs to be done. Or try to be clever and set up your own youtube channel.

If you're at uni I guess the exact industry isn't so important? Then i would suggest airtasker or pick up your local rag and ring around.
You know what my first job whilst at uni? I was delivering pussies! I was a driver for an escort company and drove girls around Sydney. Got cash in hand at minimum $500 for 3 days work per week. Deduct a bit for petrol. Shame the GFC came around too early, everyone panicked and didn't spend on girls. But eventually i got a proper job after graduation.
But i found this job in my local rag. So anything is possible.

Aha driver for three days gets $500! And the girl gets that in two hours!! Just grow a pussy and all your problems are over (I feel like I just make a Joe Hockey comment that I will have to apologise for later).

If you are at uni start your own brothel and populate it with uni girls only, it will be a big hit!

Hi brother pingers,
Without knowing your background it's a bit hard to give you meaningful advices.
Assuming you are a recent Uni grad and probably looking for employment within the fields of your studies.
Just wondering if you ever has any part time jobs in your high school and Uni days , such as waitering, pizza delivery, packing at Woolworth etc.
I know sometimes it's difficult to go back to those casual works after your degree! But take my words for it, any paying job is better than no job at all, the longer you are out there without works , the harder it is for you to get a job.
I employ a lot of young staff over the years and one of my selection aspect is someone who is currently employed, those applicants who are currently not working is most unlikely to get the job, unless he or she is exceptionally good or there is a good reason, like travelling overseas for gap year or working holiday, personal or family sickness and stuff like that.
It doesn't matter what job you have, even only just casual, you have a better chance of getting a full time job while you are working than just sitting at home .
You will feel a lot better if you get up in the morning and have a job to go to rather than wondering how to spend the next 16 hrs. You have more self esteem and confident which will affect the way you conduct yourself such as during a job interview.
If you like more advice on job search and how to better prepare for your next interview, you are welcome to PM me for some tips .
Good luck
Cheers
Alot of the times, its who you know that will get you the job. YOu need to start networking

it's hard to network if you are just starting out, it's more dependant on luck - just spam the job search websites

I found it hard finding a job out of uni and moving to Sydney after finishing uni was tough.
I started stacking shelves at a supermarket and started doing the 6am morning shift. Then they wanted someone to open the store at 4am to prepare the store, truck deliveries etc.
After a couple of months I was then moved to another store to do night shifts. I met a real spinner in the registers and had great sex in the back counting room when I was closing up one night.
After a couple of more months they offered me a full-time position to manage a store section and about 12 staff. I thought why not till I get a real job.
12 Months later I was then promoted to store manage in a new shop close by. Did that for 2 years until a regional store manager position came up.
4 years out of uni now and looking after 12 stores with big budgets and staff.
Then 2 years again they asked me to be state manager on their liquor business with 75 stores. Did that for 4 years and grew the store to 130 and revenues by 150%.
Did a few other things since then.
Now I do special projects for various retail businesses in the group.
Is amazing what a shitty shelf stacking job can turn into these days.

You're not the only one brother pingers. My friend is a Uni graduate too from architect, 6 months from his graduation he still can't find the job in his field or even trying at supermarket. If not one company have ever called you to come for interview, I believe it there is a problem with your resume. Do you have any background job history in terms where you work and what skills you have? If you input those details in your resume, write those statement looks attractive to read.
Priority is make you're resume attractive and creative. Trust me, I believe applying for job is easy but the hardest part is the interview. You need to plan it carefully. If they call you for interview, make sure you know that company well of it's objective and opportunities. That way you know what you are saying and confident bringing the role in that job.
Good luck

Totally agreed !!
A good resume will most likely get you the all important interview, which is half of the problem. In these days, a recruiter may easily get say 100+ job applications via email for any one position advertised, how do you make yourself stand out among all the others. Experienced employers and Human Resources people all have their own way of sorting out the 100's CV and narrow it down to around 10-12 for the interviewing process, so really, you only have 10% chance of getting an interview, that is providing you have already met the min requirements of the job in term of qualifications and experiences.
It's not easy mate, it never is, but you can't give up and keep going man !!
BTW, visiting these punting sites while you don't have an income is very depressing, may be you should stay away for a while and come back to share your good news with us.
all the best
Cheers

Agree with bro Ahlungor.. Punting is the last thing that I'll be worried about if I'm jobless.. All the bills and expenses are enough to make me suffer, not to mention the image of hot girl greeting me on the other side of the door... That's too much!!!

I don't think my resume is the problem. I have had it checked with uni, friends and agencies and they've given the ok. employers these days don't care about qualifications. its about who you know not what you know.. but to answer your question. I have an IT background. I only ever had one job and it was in fastfood. I don't really care what job I can get now. I just need some form of cash flow.

What is your background brother?
Are you Asian , Aussie ?
One industry is doing well is the cafe !
And you could take a quick course of being a qualified Barista ! Then look for a take away/cafe job in the CBD, North Sydney , or near a major business park, IT people love their coffee and if you are good in customer services and well presented, its a very good opportunity for networking !
You got to start somewhere , right ?
And if you are doing those short course at TAFE , do the following as well:
RSA, responsible services of alcohol,
And
RSG, responsible services of gaming
With these two certificate, it helps you to get a job in all licensed premises such as restaurants and bars and hotels and pubs !
Just my two cents
Cheers

Well you won't get a job as a brain surgeon unless you have the qualifications, so may be you need to aim for something more in you league?
It can be hard to get a job at present so sometimes its better to take a lesser job and then look for that dream job, you will find it much easier to get a job if your employed rather than unemployed, and as our TMC friend says make sure you look the part when you go for a job!
Good luck I hope you find something that suits you soon.

my two cents worth would be to consider some volunteer work to get in the faces of potential employers. see here - http://volunteer.com.au/
I've had friends who have cut the recruitment queue by this route.
for example you could be volunteering in some company doing filing or research or answering phone calls and then a vacancy in the IT dept comes up. then someone in the IT dept might say 'hey that new volunteer dude bro pingers I wuz talking to him at lunch time he has an IT degree seems like a kool dude why don't we talk to him about the vacancy and save ourselves $$$ advertising, dealing with recruiters etc...

Good suggestion !
The most important thing is to do something useful and positive for your times and days !!
Build more self confidence, self respects and self worth !
And by helping others, you will feel good about yourself, when you are happy with yourself, everything will look just that little bit more positive and easier !
Good luck!

You got a really good advantage qualifications especially from Uni. Let's not forget the world is competing with each other, I preferably say the company needing someone who has experienced in that field. Therefore,
You need to be smart what you will going to say during interview, plead for low base position or find something that helps you get into the job like internships.
Being depressed or giving up won't get you nowhere. Action speaks louder than words. You need to plan your action: list all the company you wish to apply for or company you have applied. Keep repeating this routine until they call you for interview, which I'm sure 100% you will get some call. second: analyse about the company objectives and what you can bring to the company. remember the key also how you dress professionally, how you talk effectively for example if they might give you suation of a problem, how would you handle it? Find the right solution. It's like they testing your IQ but if you're nervous it's not a good sign to start. lastly thank the interviewer and don't ask silly question like how much is the pay, when will I get a call back, when I will start work etc.. walk- away as if they needed you like smiling..
I hope this may help abit brother pingers.

Your prospects might be a little better if the Government stopped flooding the marketplace with 457 visas when the existing market is depressed..
Too many Irish (I'm just waiting to be called racist:smile:), and other people here on employer sponsored visa's. From all things, cooks, HR people, hairdressers, barbers, right up to tradespeople, nurses, engineers, and IT workers.
And hey, when they introduced the 457, it was only supposed to be a temporary measure to fill temporary voids in the employment marketplace where short term shortages occured, not replace the local workers, industry would be given time to train locals up - that was 10 years ago!
When you head down for your work for the dole program, remember something about Australian governments, ...................they sold you out.
