Thanks for the heads up, though I haven't been there for years. I'm guessing they are hoping that they are intimidating enough to get the answers they are looking for, because aren't you only required to legally give them your name and address, unless arrested? I would just politely say sorry, but it's not any or your business. I would imagine it highly unlikely they could arrest you just from being on a hotel premises.

I had to walk by on the day I saw them and they pulled me up as well . I asked what the problem was they said did I just come from motel I said no I just cut through the car park area as short cut , with that they asked for id and wanted to check my pockets , when I objected they said they have the right to stop and search . Fuck didn't worry me as nothing to hide that day anyway lol.. Think they were looking for drugs as well

I could be wrong here, but I thought they only have the right to search if they had reason to suspect you may be carrying drugs, weapons etc. Last time I checked, cutting through a carpark isn't reason to suspect. But I guess as you had nothing to hide, it's easier to just comply.

If they have reason to believe a drug dealer might be operating out of the premises, perhaps that is enough?

Alternatively they can suspect you of vagrancy/loitering, in which case you may have to provide Id and proof that you have money to substantiate you being in public.

Admitting to tresspassing would make it easier for them to have the right to search you.

I read your comments. I used to take a lady there about two years ago, we were FWB, and come to think of it there were always plenty of young (early 20's) women milling around the courtyard. It was run by a kiwi lady.
