And they are complaining about so many opening up.
Here's how you fix it make it legal they are not hurting anyone and the money is good to pump back into the local economy.

I love it how they are very quick to mention they declined the offers but they forgot to mention that just being there in a shop they had reason to believe was an illegal brothel is in fact already illegal.

They could have just said yes and claimed it as a tax deduction - job research

"The Gold Coast Bulletin declined and said, “No, that’s okay.”
She smiled, her face momentarily flashed with a look of relief.
She said: “That’s good.”
Actually when I've declined and they've said Thats Good, I've wondered what they truly mean. That's good cos they don't want to touch my dick? They sure seemed interested before I said I wasn't giving them money.

Another day, another Bulletin story. I wonder if Dawny is still pushing them to publish this garbage?
“For the past five years it’s just continued to decline and it’s mainly because these massage parlours are everywhere and dirt cheap,
“We are just over it.”
I view their whinging as really no different to taxi drivers whinging that the government isn't doing a good enough job enforcing their monopoly. The laws need to change to be more like NSW. A sneaky handjob never hurt anyone and if they actually opened up the industry, you would be able to root out the criminal element and flood the market with legitimate, above board operators who CAN pay tax on their income (or some of it anyway).

Most of the current MLs have a valid ABN, yet hardly any of them pay tax on their "legit" income, Strippers are the same and that has always been legit.

Yes, you're never going to get full compliance. The same is true of most trades etc.
But it would be easier if you were legit to take card payments and such which would be harder to dodge. Remove the possibility of prosecution and I predict you'd get far more legit operators. This is not a new problem, the Gold Coast has led the way in illegal massage shops (health studios) going back to the Bischof and Terry Lewis days under Sir Joh.

It has nothing to do with the industry being legit or not. MLs want cash in hand, not because they are doing illegal extras, because hey don't want to pay tax. Cash in hand workers have a high percentage of tax avoidance in all industries, hence the ATO targets them. I would suspect the Asian massage industry to be one of the lowest tax paying industries in Australia purely because they are receiving cash, and are either naive about the tax laws or don't care about them because they will leave before getting caught.

I get what you're saying - I'm not suggesting this is going to bring in 100% compliance. But you only need to look at Sydney, half the shops have EFTPOS terminals inside them and some even have bloody HICAPS terminals. These are shops offering far and away more than what ours do (legally). ATO can far more easily track cash coming in if they have access to this shit. When was the last time you saw any shop in QLD have anything other than strictly cash only?
By the way - I'm talking about the massage portion of the fee here, not necessarily the extras. Example - GTM Underwood in 2013 claimed to have made under $45,000 in massage fees. I don't fucking think so.
Obviously something has to be done or there will be a major crackdown soon. Hopefully it is not simply the closing down of a large number of shops.

I can't think of many shops that don't accept EFTPOS. The only shop I am aware of is Y&H Virginia (Albion has EFTPOS).
I was more referring to the staff anyway. Given that 40-50% of turnover is paid to staff and assume 30% goes in overheads, the ATO can only tax 20-30% of shop turnover in the shop's hands at 30% (depending on structure). Whereas taxing the ML is 40-50% of shop turnover at 32.5% tax rate, if the ML is a non resident (which all working holiday visa holders will be effective 1st Jan 2017 if Libs get their budget approved). Since the ATO already has mechanisms in place to catch out shops, I just don't see the ATO having much interest in a push to legalise the industry.
The MLs on the other hand will see more activity from the ATO. I have already seen documents circulating about the ATO wanting to target working holiday visa holders. They have already announced their intentions with regards to HECS/HELP dodgers and I can see foreigner workers being next on their list. New Zealand already detains people at the border if your government debt is not taken care of before trying to leave the country. I suspect Australia to follow this example and take it further to check if your tax returns are up to date.

I don't understand why brothel owners are whinging about losing out to the shops....instead of crying why wouldn't they compete and offer a massage and tug service ? It's not difficult to work out the average punt around GC or Bris is $100....the demand is obvious --
They are legal too so I'm sure punters would be happy to visit a safe place...
Instead they just whinge - big market to be had if they were a bit smart about it !

Good idea ...some places in melbourne offer this or at least they used to..might help curb some of the outrages prices ml's want.

It's the same reason the taxi industry is whining about Uber. The high cost of running a legal brothel makes it uneconomical to offer RnT services

I was about to make the same comment. I used to visit Bodyline in Yarraville and a place at 100 Johnson St, Collingwood among a few others in Footscray, South Melbourne and Richmond, bloody sensational. But with brothels here charging the same rate for massage as FS, it's generally more economical to visit a private operator or massage shop ... although some shops are charging exorbitant fees for extras which almost take it to the level of a brothel, lol.
