So much wrong with this...

What's wrong about it?

Aside from "Individual massage parlour workers offering sex to customers is not illegal," sounding incorrect, everything else seems to be just a report on police trying to catch some criminals in the act.

I think It is not illegal for OWNERS as long as they can prove they 'do not know', but for the girl it is definitely illegal

Is this why that owner of the East Bris shop got away while some of her girls got fined?

They need to stop wasting time, money and resources "clamping down" on this and make it lawful by decriminalizing it. They are the uber of the brothel industry and it is time to do away with brothel licences. Make it safe instead of forcing the operators to hide in the shadows.

Maybe it would be more feasible for all brothels owners to add 'massage' service LOL

You can't legally advertise massage if you are a brothel.

It's already lawful, that's what brothels are for. You can't just have a totally unregulated market when there are health risks associated with the industry. Even if you reduced the licencing costs, it wouldn't legitimise the industry because the same illegal operators would not maintain the required health standards. Australia has one of the highest rates of STDs in the world. How much does illegal prostitution contribute to that?

I have been thinking about this raid, and HBerg beat me to the 'Uber" word

Brothels are heavily licensed and regulated, and their owners have invested a lot of money - just like like the taxi industry.

If the massage parlours re-branded themselves as "Uber Girls" and put a little sticker in their window like Uber drivers do, then what is the difference? Would government change legislation like they did with Uber?

I heard a great quote recently "Did we try and ban e-mail because it destroyed the business model of Australia Post?"

As Bill Heslop said "You can't stop progress"

An Australian-based forum also exists where customers share explicit details of their visits to massage parlours and rate their experiences.

Where is this forum they speak of?

A lot of these laws are unenforcable and should be down to the escort's descretion, which is pretty much how things work now. I think all of us posting here have probably broken the letter of the law through ignorance at some point. As for threesomes and two girls working in the same premises, you can argue that allowing this makes the girls safer. One girl I spoke with years ago told me she's been campaigning for a change. There should be a limit on how many can work from one premises, but I don't see a problem with allowing two or three. Part of the point of making prostitution legal is to create better and safer working conditions for the escorts, and the law should reflect that.

The funny thing is that PP doesn't share explicit details of illegal shops. They are actually cryptic in their reviews to the point it's almost not worth going there for AMP info.

What the government did to the taxi industry was criminal. They created a heavily regulated industry, then when illegal operators like UBER came in they threw their hands up and said it's unpopular/impossible to police this. You would need to see a massive shift in the acceptance of the AMP industry by society in order for the gov to make it legal. If anything there might be a similar stance taken to UBER. Reduce the barriers to entry for brothels and increase the regulation of AMPs. But that really won't stop the illegal operators as they refuse to abide by any laws. Ask yourself how many AMPs/MLs pay all the taxes they are supposed to, they just have a criminal mentality.

Who thinks prostitution laws should be laxer? And what are some good reasons?

Socialize the whole lot i say, all under government control. That way u would eliminate the criminal element, no criminals in the government. 😂
Oh, and all the girls would get paid sickies and super. Happy girls means happy punters. ✔

Something I have been thinking about is, why not create a new licence for this industry.
The majority of punters going to massage shops are not looking for FS or GFE and its rare to find a ml that will put out for FS any way.

Why not have an intermediate licence for the standard R&T?
If this was in place the girls would have the protection of the law against those that pester, threaten or bully them as well.
There would be standards implemented as to the cleanliness and condition of the rooms towels and showers.
One would even think that the price of the extras offered 1,2 or 3 would be standardised.

Makes sense to me
