Haha yeah I used to see that often when I lived OS as well, yanks were the worst offenders, poms not much better, and yeah a fair few Aussies too. Like, their minds couldn't wrap around the fact that a different country had a different language!

I just realised there are many nationalities from Asia working here like the Thais, viets, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, odd Indonesian/Malaysian girl here and there, but i hardly see any Filipino girls working here!!, does working in Australia not interest them or they have their work cut out for them back home?
TBF, some nationalities are a lot harder to differentiate than others. It's because they share very close genetic links (essentially the same race), just that they are separated by a line in the sand as different countries.
Chinese and Korean are very closely linked. I've personally been mistaken as a Korean many times at restaurants, brothels, RNTs. They just start speaking Korean to me when I meet them, it's really funny.
Vietnamese and Chinese are also very similar. I think of Vietnamese as part of the Chinese diaspora. It's the same race, until you speak to them you can't really tell if they're Chinese or Vietnamese.
Other nationalities that could easily be mistaken are the Indochinese ones to the west of Vietnam. Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, all are the same ethnic race and again very hard to tell the diff until they speak.
Not what science tells us.
For example, from https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1510...0the%20Chinese.
analyses demonstrated genetic evidence of the origin of Koreans from the central Asian Mongolians. Further, the Koreans are more closely related to the Japanese and quite distant from the Chinese.
Noting that Mongolians are very different to Han Chinese.
It took me a while to think about this.
