Thanks for the words of support. To be 100% honest, I've hit rock bottom with a addiction, and I need to be accountable to someone other than myself. If this post helps even one person recognize the signs before they get where I am, then it's worth the vulnerability. The worst part is there's barely any support for this kind of addiction out there. But all will be revealed soon…

There’s a darker side to punting then the 95% of you see/think you know, and the worst thing is it’s most probably right infront of your face when your having a punt. It’s us 5%ers that see a side that you don’t see and wouldn’t understand. Some good advice here. Thank you for sharing and being honest. I know it takes a lot for some to open up online only to be shut down.

I think you will understand when I say I have already introduced hurdles into my weekly life to stop me from going out. If that be by going to a SAA or SLA meeting on payday or on the days I would normally punt during the week, to setting myself a weekly spend and whatever I spend on punting I put the same amount into a account for “rewards” for being good. If that’s a heading down a record shop and spending a few hours digging through vinyl and walking out with a handful just to add to the collection back home and getting a Thai in Thaitown after or re connecting with lost friends which Ive lost through this addiction by meeting up every few weeks trying new places / dishes to eat with mates, to weekends away or a week overseas. Trying to replace one “happens” with another and keep yourself busy as I’ve been told to do.

Variety is also a good suggestion. Been floating around other shops since December last year, and to be honest wasting money on dud punts and timewasters just started to piss me off. Some you you may agree, that we work hard for our money, so why should we just hand over money and get a shit service in return along with timewasting and not say anything? So as a result, and kindy pointed out - I have also started to slow down, and after what happened, it’s given me the motivation to close that chapter in my life and move on.

Hopefully overcoming the impulse actions and thoughts will be easier then how it going right now. It’s better, heading in the right direction, but still more room for improvement I think.

He’s like one of those punters that the girls don’t like. The sort of punter that thinks they can do whatever they want all because they paid for 30min > 1hr booking, I’ve seen and heard from the girls too many times. They think it’s their right to treat them like a pice of meat only to be thrown away like a used mattress at the end of the booking. Your right when you say “ I’m wasting my money”. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

You know it’s starting to get out of control when you start lying to yourself about money spent, making excuses for time away, feeling controlled by urges I couldn't manage, and the secrecy starting to poison other relationships in my life.

When something meant to be occasional becomes compulsive, when you're planning your week around sessions, when you're dipping into savings you shouldn’t touch - those are the red flags I ignored.

I've been staring at this blank screen for months, wondering if I should say anything. But here's the thing - it's taken me months to find the courage to actually do something about it in the first place. It isn't easy to write, but staying silent hasn't exactly worked out for me either.

If you are equating spending $45k at 1 place, being an Uber driver for the workers, handiman and receptionist for mamasan versus going on a streak to the same shop as a customer then did you really learn anything?
