An article from the Group of Eight (Go8).
These are the eight largest universities in Australia who collaborate together to provide recommendations to Dr Brendan Murphy, Australian Chief Medical Officer.
They recently provided a new set of recommendations in “A Roadmap to Recovery – A Report to the Nation”.
The recommendations came down to 2x proposed options and a 3rd rejected:
Eliminate the illness;
May stay in tight lockdown till near the end of June.
Suppress the illness to a low level and manage it;
Lifting of restrictions could start in mid May.
… and a rejected option:
Allow the epidemic to run through the population in a way that does not overwhelm the healthcare system. Some have called this approach “herd immunity.”

Author must be a Chinese plant, huh?
I don't think so. USA response in all this has been calamitous. Considering it was regarded as the best country in the world to handle a pandemic prior to this.
There are significant numbers of commentators that are critical of the USA's handling of this pandemic. Before and during.
The pandemic has exposed a lot about what is wrong with their country.
Too many to list here ... but consider how stupid Trump has been. There's a very good Scottish word to describe him: a "cockwomble".
I think I was being facetious
Trade war!
"China, you have banned our barley exports. In retaliation we will ban your WL exports!"
Hang on a second that's a lose, lose for us. That's not good.
Ok, how about this "OK China you won't import our barley, so we won't import those Great Wall cars. Let's face it they are pretty shit cars anyway".
But please, please, please let us import your WLs.
The Japanese WLs are cuter and more genuine, and the Korean WLs are more pretty and glamorous, and the Thai WLs are more exotic looking and wild. But we still need the Chinese WLs.
They are the bread and butter of punting in Sydney, and sometimes the jam and honey too. And sometimes the caviar!.
"Oh and China to sweeten the deal and to show our good faith we will give you the following people (our best and brightest) to keep as hostages until this is resolved. Pauline Hanson, Jacqui Lamby, George Christenssen, Tony Abbott, Ray Hadley, Andrew Boult, Alan Jones, Sarah Hanson-Young, Adam Brandt, Eva Cox, David Marr, Joel Creasey, Josh Thomas, Anna Gatsby, Shannon Noll, 5 Seconds of Summer, David Littleproud, Vicky Xu, Iggy Azalea, John Farnham, Sonia Kruger, Ray Price, George Calombaris, Melissa Leong.
To all the China fans, relax, I am just having a laugh here. Please don't get upset.
You forgot that stupid cow, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells
Ah yes. Didn’t she win Eurovision? :)
While most of us here are celebrating and counting down the arrival of 1 July........
Spare a thought for the rest of the world, it was only on the 8 June the worldwide Covid19 infections reached 7 million. Today it just went over 8 million! That’s one million extra cases in a week !
If it doesn’t slow down , by the time we reached 1 July, the total cases could be 10 million, far out !
Australia indeed has done so well , we bloody better not stuff this up.
Reviving the thread. We are now seeing spikes in cases in VIC and some unknown community transmission in NSW. I'm still trying to decide to go back to punting (ML) or to keep isolating due to this period of cases popping up again, especially with the recent protests.
Brothers, are you all back in full force? Or still waiting to see how the infections numbers go (and wait for our fav MLs to come back to work)?
I'm being pretty cautious. Mostly seeing my regular ML, who I know is meticulous and for the first time since COVID I tried a local shop on the weekend as I couldn't escape for long enough to see my regular. I was pleased to see my local check for temperatures, offered hand sanitiser to me as least 3 times and ML didn't tempt me too much! But I still managed to enjoy her services!
Was doing some rough numbers after watching the news last night. The latest Vic outbreak currently involves ~120-odd cases / day. Each ~10 cases has just one host of COVID so this transmission rate is over double the normal community transmission. You definitely don't want to be hanging out in big or small groups of strangers. It seems the Victorian family gatherings have been sharing food / kisses/ hugs or something to double the risk of transmission.
no, not that I've seen, at least.
I wonder if any VIC W/L or M/L are coming to NSW to work soon.
Yes, close proximity with anyone not living in your household poses the risk as not all of the population have been tested and so many don't have symptoms. All it takes is someone to infect an ML/WL, then it spreads very quickly. Hopefully we can protect our ML/WLs!
