same as etc or etc. - people just write them different.

Im sure some grammar nazi will correct this and say only one is correct although if you write any of them people will know what you mean

The problem with english is that all rules have exceptions!
Anyway some common usage is shown below.

"a"

• Used to mention a single noun: This punter is a dickhead.
• When referring to something for the first time: A punter with a small cock and a big ego.

"the"

• Refer to something specific: The punter is bald.
• When referring to something/someone: PunterX is the smelliest man in the brothel right now.

"a" vs "the"

• the punter -> refers to a specific punter, usually
• a punter -> refers to any punter

comma

• Used to pause, or break up a sentence, See what I just did.
• Also used to form lists. I like DATY, BBBJ, and FS.
