I find it strange that there’s a statue of Governor Macquarie in Hyde Park that says, "He was a perfect gentleman, a Christian and supreme legislator of the human heart." Of course people in history should be judged by current standards if we’re to learn anything about the past, although I think instead of tearing the statues down we should just add facts like the ones above to the plaques.
