1 - They're figuring out if you're someones regular who has booked and they don't want to reject you outright if everyone is already busy or if they get their turn of the walk-ins with you. Simple customer service question.
2 - They want to know if you're aware of what goes on and how the shop operates. Can dictate the level of discretion they can use asking on the flip or what you get offered when you say you want more.
