I think there are enough girls making money as bait/switch as escorts and in scamming guys on seeking. Otherwise they would not keep coming back and advertising.

I do agree that there are more and more intricate scams appearing on the dating sites. One thing I never do is hand over money in advance. There’s no such thing as a “deposit” that will ever be honoured in this game. If she really wants a show of good faith, it’s a two way street - ask for her details and book her Uber for her. That way you can see if she is real and on her way to you.
Never pay for a deposit is good advice. I also don't pay when we meet, only afterwards. Usually this is not a problem if you are treating the evening like a normal date and you are both enjoying yourselves and she feels really comfortable with you. I've had one or two ask for money at the start and it usually does not end well. It's as if once they have the money they check out. It could also be the kind of girls they are with hindsight.
