I stand corrected. Thanks. TSMC so far ahead of everyone else. And it's not just the technology but the people who know how to use it to produce the product ...

It's not that simple. Both China and TSMC relies on lithography machines from ASML holdings which is from the Netherlands. China can't get access to the best stuff from ASML due to USA pressure on Netherlands to not export it. Other companies making these machines are from Japan...

    They’ll find a way. ASML’s edge won’t last forever.

    China has overcome that hurdle

The other day I saw a funny joke where CCP stands for Cut, Copy, Paste. I'm sure they'll find a way to replicate the tech

This looks more like propaganda to me. TSML were at 3nm in 2020. SMIC are only at 4nm today? ASML have had a lot of pressure from the US not to sell to Chinese companies. So who is supplying the machines for manufacturing them? There's not much detail in that clip, only letting everyone know SMIC are making headway. It costs 9 billion US dollars to build a new fabrication line for new chips. I don't think TSMC or the likes of Apple, Nvidia, AMD or any company they manufacture for will be to concerned for a while yet. I think Samsung is ahead of SMIC at the moment. It did let everyone know there is competition coming up.

They already are! You have a go at people who are great with words, but you don't seem to read. Where do you think SMIC are located?

Wow, Sydney Metropolitan International College, I AM impressed. Must be all the PRC exchange student engineers... Or maybe Taiwan students...

For military use, 7nm or 3nm it’s not really such a big deal. Most chips used by Russia for the military are 20nm. It’s more of a deal at the consumer electronics end. The difference between SMIC and TSMC is 5 to 7nm vs 3nm - this edge is closing but it’s not as big of a deal as it’s made out to be. Samsung is in memory largely - it’s not a direct competitor to TSMC or SMIC. Japan is largely out of the picture now.

The key thing is that China is innovating - and in pretty critical areas - such as AI. if you still think it’s copy paste, you’re living under a rock mate.
