The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Girls probably have regulars who keep the turnstiles turning, and perhaps provide them additional services they wouldn’t provide the new bloke that walked in off the street.
Competition is probably also not strong at the moment, with the ex CBD Style group on the decline. I’d say Jacob’s World Sq / Poplar shops are probably the closest competition and the quality of MLs in there is really variable and unreliable.
Then there’s the likely apathy from management. If a shit hole is continuing to churn money albeit maybe not at the same level as years gone by, why bother spending dough making it less of a shit hole.
Personally, I haven’t been back in Tokio over 6 months (have been a 1-2 times a week regular over the previous 7 years) for a variety of reasons, but primarily because $100 for an hour for a below average massage doesn’t feel like value and the quality (age, looks, service) of MLs has gone downhill massively. It doesn’t bother me as much that the place is run down. I don’t need to live there
