So the other week, my shoulders were completely cooked—like, stiff to the point I could barely turn my head properly. I’m in Waratah, right, and I spot this little remedial massage place tucked between a PreSchool and some old café that looks like it’s been there forever. Didn’t look like much, but I figured, stuff it, I need this.
Walk in, and it’s dead quiet. Smells like eucalyptus or something. Before I even really take it in, this lady comes walking up the hallway. Probably late 40s, slim, very composed—like she’s done this a million times. Not flashy or anything, but she had this calm, confident vibe.
She looks at me and goes, “First time here?”
I’m like, “Yeah, and I’m in rough shape.”
She gives this knowing little smile, like I’m not the first bloke to walk in half broken. Gets me to move my shoulders around, presses into my back a bit—and mate, she finds every sore spot instantly.
“Very tight,” she says. “You work too much.”
I just laugh. “Yeah, something like that.”
Next thing, I’m on the table, face down, thinking this’ll be your standard relaxing massage. Nope. Her hands were strong. Like, not brutal, but she knew exactly what she was doing. Every time she pressed into a knot, it was like she’d been mapping my back for years.
She goes, “You tell me if too much.”
I’m like, “Nah, keep going… I think I need it.”
At one point she hits this spot near my shoulder blade and I actually flinch. She just chuckles quietly and goes, “This one… very stubborn.” Like she’s personally offended by the knot.
What got me was how focused she was. Didn’t talk much, but when she did, it was like she’d already figured me out.
“You hold stress here,” she says, pressing into my neck.
I’m thinking, yeah… and probably everywhere else too.
And then there were these little moments—like she’d adjust my arm or shoulder and go, “Relax more, don’t fight.” And I didn’t even realise I was tensing until she said it.
Time kind of blurred after a while. You know when you’re not asleep but you’re not fully awake either? That zone. The music was soft, everything slowed down, and for once my brain just… shut up.
By the end, she eases off, lighter pressure, like bringing you back to reality.
“All done,” she says.
I sit up, roll my shoulders, and I’m like—how is that already better? Not perfect, but way looser than when I walked in.
She goes, “Next time, come before it gets this bad.”
Fair call, honestly.
Walked out feeling like a different person. Shoulders weren’t screaming at me anymore, and I was weirdly relaxed—like I’d just hit reset or something.
$80 for an hour. Wasn't amazing but will return again.
Anyway, yeah… didn’t expect much from that random place, but turns out it was exactly what I needed.
