From my understanding, doesn't need to be active; test just shows past exposure. Best to ask your doctor.

It's not so common to be tested for HSV2 in Australia though, at least it was when I was swinging a lot a few years back. I think the idea is that it's so prevalent and it's also so typically asymptomatic that knowing is just going to lead to mental stress and strain and lots of pointless testing and retesting. A lot of people who know they have it wouldn't disclose anyway, and we're never going to eradicate it via behaviour changes because people are always going to want to fuck.
My take is that most WLs have it and it's only a matter of time before you unfortunately shag one who's shedding the virus and you get it too. But because being asymptomatic is so common you may never know about it.
So either stress about it and just stick to HJs, or don't stress at all.
