I am half American and half South American, born in Chicago but brought up speaking another language so I could communicate with one side of my family. I went to a school that we spoke another language continuously and we spoke it at home. Result, I have an accent no matter what language I speak and I speak three languages fluently. I don’t look like I belong in America or Australia but I am too white to be South American. Yet, I hold an American passport and two other permanent visas. I am no lesser a person than anyone else.
