As I said, the reason I corrected the other fellow is that I asked Winona if she was Chinese, and she said to me, "No, I am not Chinese, I am Taiwanese". Ah, we have a Winnie the Pooh apologist here. Taiwan is an independent country that has suffered waves of invasion. Most recently by the Kuomintang in the 1940s, replacing Japanese colonial rule. Yes, the majority of the people on Taiwan may have Han Chinese ethnicity, but that in no way means it is Chinese. 50 percent of people in Hurstville have Han Chinese ancestry; does that mean Hurstville is part of China?

You're confusing nationality with ethnicity. If you really want "Taiwanese" ethnicity, you'll be looking at someone that looks more "Malay", nowhere near looking like any of the hot Taiwanese girls we know and love from everything from pop culture to the WGs that we've had the pleasure of meeting in our punting. Some pop divas from Taiwan do have some ethnic Taiwanese blood in them but very little. They look extremely different from what we know as "Taiwanese". TMB, they're not "hot", lolll

What we know as "Taiwanese" are actually almost 100% Han Chinese. If you need someone to blame for that situation, you can blame the KMT cos their fleeing to Taiwan after loosing the civil war in mainland China created Taiwan as we know it.

That last sentence you wrote totally confirms that you do not understand the point. Nobody is saying Hurstville is part of China. That's ludicrous and you know it. But the people who live there who are of Han ethnicity are indeed Han Chinese. That's the only thing people are saying.
