Apparently Burwood is the coolest suburb in Australia now

Shows how far Australia has sunk. Australia has become so boring compared to last decades that Burwood is its coolest suburb, and I would actually believe it, which is fucked up.

Question for all the newcomers to Australia (arrival less than 10yrs ago - 2016 or later). Is Burwood rly that great?

I live in Burwood btw. Been living here for many decades. I think it's the shittest, rudest, dirtiest and ugliest suburb I've ever seen in all of Sydney, rivalling the Bankstown surrounding areas in terms of how much of a dump it is. It's only saving grace are it's brand new apartment towers.

I think Ling is over the top in his description of Burwood being shittest, rudest, dirtiest and ugliest suburb in all of Sydney. I can confirm it is one of if not the busiest suburb though. The place is full people, cars, buses and Uber Eat bikes especially from Thursday to Sunday. It is always buzzing after dark up and down Burwood Road either side of the train station and finding a place to park at that time is like looking for hens teeth.

Burwood is the only suburb I know of that has 2 CBA branches, 3 Chemist Warehouses, 2 Woollies, a Court House, a local police command, countless eateries including 2 Lanzhou noodle shops, multiple bubble tea joints, cake shops, multiple pubs and clubs, a Crowne Plaza hotel (busy during NRL grand final weekend), and of course tons of fucken AMPs up and down the strip plus a couple of FS joints.

Over last 2 decades of working here fulltime, I have seen many changes - a brand new China town, countless blocks of units going up including a 20+ floor tower currently under construction. In the next few years, with the metro down and running the place will become an ant hill.

I understand that cuisine selection is very personal but you must be very hard prick to please if you couldn't manage to find something decent to munch on here at any time of the day. It is a UN general assembly of food outlets from your basic pub fares to fast foods to Asian of many varieties - Southern Chinese, Norther Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, middle Eastern, Thai, etc

I have taken overseas relatives there for dinner many times. They were impressed by the place and its ambience. Granted it is not Tokyo, HCM City, Shanghai, or Hong Kong in comparison but it is not too bad especially with public transport access to and from everywhere around Sydney.

I’ll fight you by the duck pond.

The colourful and busy neon night scenes in Burrwood is something to bring the overseas visitors to marvel at.

I live in a quiet harbourside suburb in North Shore. There are more trees and birds than people here.

Everytime I go to the station off peak there are only 2 or 3 passengers there.

Coming to Burrwood to witness the hustle and bustle brings a bit of cheers to me.

Burwood is an absolute fucken shithole! No arguments there. But compared to Lakemba, Punchbowl, Bankstown, Merrylands, Mt Druitt, Granville, Redfern, Busby, Minto, St Marys, Sydney CBD it's fucken paradise.

....Burwood is just less fucked than the other alternatives.

The fact that Burwood needs to be compared to these suburbs. Also, CBD is better (obviously).

Burwood bye far and away has the best and widest selection of cuisine in Sydney. When you venture in weekly for a Thursday night meal you will begin to see the patterns. Older shops are always good. Then you have the new shop replacing some ordinary joint. If it lasts 3 months then you try it and all is good. The mob in Burwood and surrounds are hard markers. No good, they don't go back. Still, if you are not Chinese then you are in the minority. Respect them and they respect you. Simple 😎
