    Excellent thread

I've been reading this thread for a while now. This is not the site that I would have naturally been attracted to for some quality cricket commentary and editorial. Well done to the various contributors . As a reasonably well informed cricket follower , I must say that some of you guys know your shit . Shame the season is over for test cricket now. Don't expect much comment in the world of T20 . Thanks again for your exchanges .

    Hi brother Ranger,

It's great to see a cricket thread in an adult punting forum can inspire you to register and post your first post!

Welcome to the forum mate !

I have posted a few cricket related threads in the past, mostly around Michael Clarke like when he made 300 against India and the double centures vs the Proteas - but funny enough, I first noticed Micharl Clarke NOT because of cricket nor himself as a cricketer - it was becasue of the: Where the bloody hell was Lara Bingle - and of course, once I started following cricket I was kind of hooked...............lol

And to be fair, it was a dismal time when I started this thread - straight after losing 4-0 in India and it was late at night in the first Ashes test in England, Australia was 9 for not too many and in came Ashton Agar, the 19 year old on debut, batting with Phil Huges who wasn't in much form himself - well, the rest was history and record breaking for the number 11th and history making 10th wicket stand!

    That's CRICKET !!

It was deja vu on Wednesday night, Thursday morning at around 3.30am, when we couldn't bowl SA out for 140+ overs, with six overs left for the day and the test series and the Proteas was looking likely to send Graeme Smith off for the last time Not as a series losing Captain. All the Aussie bowlers were exhausted, half injured and jaded. Then Captain Clarke throw the ball to the most unlike and almost crippled Harris for one last effort.

Two clean bowled wickets in three balls and it was all over! what a legend !!

That's a cricket moment worthy of staying up to listen - I have no Fox Tv, just listening in on ABC !!

There is nothing more we can ask from the team and nothing more to say really.

    Cheers

Well said bro AHLUNGOR, reading some of your early post on this thread it was fairly obvious you were new to Cricket but you have learnt fast and show great judgment and enthusiasm for the game and the Australian Team. Well done!

As for the Australian team it was great to see how they never gave up may be a bit of a laps now and then like the second test against SA but I think they showed great fight which is all we ever ask win loose or draw from an Australian team.

    Conflicting interests

    Ahlungor ,
I was out punting on Wednesday night at my latest haunt. , Midas . I was faced with the most terrible conflict . Do I go for 90 minutes ( my usual timeframe ) and face the prospect of missing the last few wickets or go totally with the cricket? . I had 2 bob each way and did 60 mins massage and sprinted back to the TV . Shame the lounge there always shows movies when you have a foot massage otherwise they would have had me there all night until 2 pm .Anyhow the timing was fine . Missed most of the "8 for " period and got back for the last 12 overs . It was like trying to determine when is the perfect time to declare your innings and still have time to get the other side out. So all in all I had the perfect night. Two happy endings within an hour or so .

The Aussie's winning forms continues at the T20 !!

    Game 1 was washed out,

Game 2 this morning was washed down to 7 overs a side.

Bailey won the toss and sent the Proteas in, they made 1 for 80 !

11 and a bit per over, easy task when we got Warner opening !!

Davey Warner raced ahead to 40 off 16 balls before falling lbw to Duminy.

The momentum stopped, run rates slowed right down and wickets keep falling: 3/48, 4/52, 5/60.

When Bailey was run out for 2 at 5.1 overs, we needed 22 runs off 11 balls - still looked OK, 2 runs a ball.

Haddin and Brad Hodge in the middle, needing 15 runs in the final over !!

Two singles for the first two balls, it's getting tight, we need boundaried ! and then BANG ! a big SIX from Hodge, we are getting close, BANG !, another SIX, the scores are level, needs 1 run to win with 2 balls !!

Wide !! Games over, oh, another Wide !!, we won by 82 to 80 with 5 wickets in hands and still two balls to spare. Excellent.,

Brad Hodge man of the match, only faced 8 balls but put in 21 Not Out - wonderful efforts !!

    Cheers

A good win then but its such an advantage batting second when the game is reduced so much.

Yeah, I think for the short form of the game, batting second and knowing the run rates you need to win, it's an advantage, so Bailey made the right call.

Very disappointing that none of Finch, Watson, Maxwell and Bailey managed to get a start !!

It's great that we have David Warner and Hodge !!

But these starting time for T20 is killing me. I woke up at 5.30am and only managed to watch the score and commentary on ABC for the last two overs - it was nail biting and exciting though.

    Cheers

Yeap, got a win for the Aussie to win the series @$1.74!

Game III was never in doubt after the Proteas only got 128! In The end we have 5 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand !

Was pretty certain for another winning ticket too on Warner top score in the series @$4.50 !

As he already got 40 in the game II, don't know why he wasn't playing !

That's another two RnT sessions !! Gone, bad luck !

Twenty 20 1st game and we fielded poorly and our bowling wasn't any better, we didn't bat too bad but the game was lost when we dropped those 3 catches be it one was off a no ball.

Time to reassess and get our act together for the next game.

I don't think we are as sharp as we were playing England and South Africa. And I don't understand why Bailey chosed to field first. All the commentators were questioning his decision !! And looks like we should have more spinners for the local conditions. I think they should rush Nathan Lyon into the team, he is our no. 1 spinner all Summer and should be over there instead of Canberra !! And he bats very well too, 36 not out or something.

BTW, Glenn Maxwell was on fire and the partnership with Finch was sensational. If only anyone of Warner, Watson, Bailey and Hodge and Haddin could get to doubel figures, we could have easily won it. Now that India is already 2 out of 2, it will be very hard for us to qualify.

I don't know if spinners is the answer we don't have 4 top class spinners like Pakistan.

If our seamers bowled to their capabilities then we may do better.

The first thing we have to do is take our catches. Its hard enough to get 10 wickets but we needed at least 13 because of the catches we dropped..

Wickets in hand is a clear advantage in the last 10 overs. The top order failed again if Warner doesn't get runs we struggle.

I'm sure Warner will come good in the next match or two, just hope he doesn't take to looooooooooong to produce his best !!

But what happened to Haddin, he seems like a different batsman after the Ashes !!

And is James Faulkner still injured ??

One more thing, now that Spins is good for these grounds, we should quickly recall Steve Smiths and drop Watson !!

And why is Maxwell not bowling at all ?? - even Finch gets to bowl and got hammered !!

Two games two loses,I think we are out of the World Cup now !

Poor batting , except Maxwell !!

Poor bowling and poor fielding !!

Mitchell Starc bowled so badly on the 19th over, basically handed the game to the West Indies!!

Before he leaked 19 runs off his over, the WI needed 31 over 12 balls and we should be able to defend that with the tournament on the line !!

Poor Captaincy from Bailey again! Watson only had two offers for 11 runs, why wasn't he bowling one of the last two overs ??

    Too late now !

Must admit a very disappointing effort I didn't think we batted very well but then the bowling and fielding wasn't any better.

Game three for the Aussie, finally we are playing more spins, with Hodge and Maxwell to open the bowling! And Hodge took a wicket in the first over!

In fact we were right on top with 4 for 66 after 11 overs! But India put in a great 5th wicket partnership of 84 runs for 5 for 150!

Good recovery from the Aussie to limit India to 159! So we need 160 to win , 8 an over , lets get some pride back !!

    Go Aussie !

    WTF!!

We should just go home !!

    3 for 21 after 5 overs !

Finch out for 6, Cameron White out on a duck and Watson bowled for 1, shit !!

If Warner or Maxwell don't do anything, it could be an early night !
