    Recommendations for laser hair removal

    Hi all,

Thinking of getting laser hair removal on my private regions.

I have been considering this for a while. Sick of shaving down there.

    Can anyone provide any recommendations?

As I think I will be a little embarrassed given the parts being lasered, I would prefer a place that specialises and is experienced in doing it on men.

I'm on my sixth session, and doing another six. The sessions are timed 4 weeks apart for the first 12 months, then you only have to do maintenance three times a year.

I'm using Laser Clinics Australia in Top Ryde City Shopping Centre. There's heaps of other laser hair removal clinics from other brands but LCA so far is the only one I find that offers laser for men, even though the technicians are all women.

It is slightly embarrassing at first as you're trying to remind yourself "This isn't an RnT, behave!".

As I'm doing underarms, butt and brazilian (privates) I normally keep my undies on and let the technicians do my underarms first. When getting to butt I pull my undies down slightly just to expose but not totally remove. Once they're ready for brazilian I take everything off and follow their instructions. They won't touch your willy so they will instruct you to move it like a joystick.

Are you Asian with fair skin or are you white with dark/blonde/red hair? Laser only works on dark hair - if you're a natural blonde or ginger then you need to do electrolysis instead as laser won't work on lighter pigments.

Begov, thanks for the extensive run down. I do have dark hair. Although I am not looking forward to it, I have decided I am definitely doing it.

Can I ask, do you have to shave beforehand? Being that a female is doing it, does it get awkward?

Have you had any complications with the treatments so far? Also how would you compare the pain of it to?

I’m curious as I’m looking to get it soon aswell but on my face as a half Asian guy, facial hair looks ridiculous on me lol.

Yes you have to shave beforehand, otherwise the laser won't penetrate into the roots and the hair follicle won't get destroyed. Most shops will charge you a "shaving fee" if you turn up unshaven.
Doing it the first time you'll see some stubble "growing" out as if it was a fail, but if you leave it for at least 3-4 days you'll notice some of the hairs falling off on its own. This is basically your pores getting rid of the dead hair, and depending on how deep your follicles are it can shed either faster or longer but generally you'll see them fall off within a week after your session.
Weeks later new hairs might grow back but it'll be thinner. The more sessions you do the thinner it gets to the point where it's almost unnoticeable.

First visit and stripping down is awkward as you're reminding yourself that you're not there to receive HJ. After a few sessions you get used to it. My regular tech was not my type so I had no problem but one time I had a cute Aussie girl for that one day, it was much more awkward for her than myself as it seems that I was her first male customer. My regular tech seems like she's done many males in the past so she's unhinged.

Nope. I think the complications only affects those with darker skin (African/Aboriginal) or those with tattoos. Also you need to clean the area before the session (no oils, lotions, sunscreen, perfume) so best to hop into the shower and shave before the session. You don't want the technician to turn you away because of your hygiene, and the reason why you should keep your treatment area product free is because the product may affect the efficacy of the laser. Oh and if you're on mandatory antibiotics for whatever ailments then stay away from laser for a few weeks.

On your first four session they tend to zap you with a mild to moderate power which feels almost nothing. The laser point also blows cool air so it cools the area down immediately after being zapped. On your fifth and subsequent sessions they'll increase the power and you'll feel something. The strongest pain I've experienced is similar to getting zapped by static electricity. Most painful treatment areas is obviously the pubes as my hairs are usually thick.

If you're doing facial hair with typical East Asian consistency then you should be fine. The skin on the face is much more delicate so I reckon they'll keep it at mild or moderate power.

Thanks again Begov. I feel a lot more comfortable about doing it. Looking forward to the hair thinning (only down there lol).

    Your input is much appreciated.

I think your question is valid because until today I have never met guys who have done any laser hair removal. In the past I had MLs and WLs who asked me with a shocked face if I had lasered since they realised how smooth my skin is. The only type of men that I know that are brave enough to laser down there are gay or effeminate men. When the cute Aussie tech girl saw me strip to my undies she was blushing so I guess I'm not like any male customers she have seen frequenting the clinic.

I did a google search and I found this one around Strathfield. They claim to be professionals in doing this for men (Seems all their staff are men as well).

    I haven't been there myself

I might try one day. Always itches a day after shaving.
