Games speak to the very core nature of men.
Competitiveness, goal achievements, shiny shit, costumes for the Waifus etc.
I have been an avid gamer since the NES days and have had at least one console from every generation from each company (Ninty, Sega, Sony, MS etc).
Whilst I have enjoyed every genre, currently I am really into VR which gives me a chance to do things I normally wouldn't be able to without space or money (i.e 11TableTennis) and yes have tried some VR Porn.
Also really love Sims. Was playing Car Mechanic VR for a bit and thinking about getting Wrench but need a better PC.
Was massive fighting game fan and very good at it circa 2010 in SFIV and Tekken 6. Might know some of you punters from this lol.
Interested to hear what others are playing especially recommendations in the VR space.

Born in 1971 so grew up with Atari, Commodore 64. Super nintendo, ps1,2,3,4,and 5, the late wife use to call the ps3/4 the second wife,
But she was happy I was home with her, and not out gambling or whoring behind her back,
but all out honest I spend more time on the iPad playing games and watching movies than turning on the TV, or Mac,
In terms of porn, I have given up watching it even in VR, as i only watched it because I wasn’t getting any sex at home, due to my late wife’s treatment for cancer over a 4 year period,
Now i am more focus living a good public life than being a reclusive at home 24/7

Was waiting for this thread to come about! Slightly younger than you guys but my first console was a N64 then PS1 and then owned pretty much every Xbox since including the series X I have now. Mostly play FIFA or the Forza range have a wide collection of driving games. On PC I regularly play league of legends, total war series and other random stuff

Haha, not much response yet, guess most of the older crowd don't game much.
I enjoyed league for a bit but I'm hopeless on mouse and keyboard for that type of game including RTS. Can't keep up the APMs.
I was good at a Moba on Mobile called Vainglory if you have ever heard of that, very popular for a bit. I also played a fair bit of Rocket League, but haven't done much flat screen gaming anymore once I got my VR headset.
I'm a PES/Winning Eleven man myself. At one stage I had the full driving setup in my room, and hit up Colin McRae Rally a lot

What's life without games? Lol!
Of course I'm a gamer. Actually my wife is a much more hardcore gamer than I am, she goes on I don't know 10-man dungeon runs on WOW. Guess that's the luxury of not having to work for a living!
Me, I'm just the usual adult guy who's grown up during the Golden Age of gaming. Playing games is part of my genes now, lol!
I had an old Epson PC that didn't even have a HDD. Everything was run from floppies. Got hooked on PC games from there, particularly RPGs. The Ultima series, the OG Wastelands (precursor to Fallout if you didn't know), etc. I was there for all of them and I'm proud of it!
My first console was a Sega Megadrive. I have always been a sworn fan of Sega / anti Nintendo, but recently bought a Nintendo Switch OLED because i've given up hope on seeing Sega becoming a major player in gaming anymore. RIP, I will always cherish the memories of the great games they churned out... I absolutely pwned everyone on Virtual Soccer, and that's without using cheats!
Also reckon I'm a bit of a geek. I love to build my own gaming PC rigs. The one I'm using now was built in the middle of one of the COVID lockdowns. Nice OCed RTX 3080, Core i7 coffee lake, water cooled, 64 GB RAM, 3TB NVME SSD, clear case and lots of LEDs everywhere, haha. Should last me for a few more years that one I think.
Currently trying to play D4 as much as I can when I have time but geez... Being an adult is so much work!

Born in 1977, so for me it’s emulation rather than consoles, bringing back memories playing C64, Amiga, DOS games and arcade games via MAME

Heck yeah, I'm thinking of 3060 myself.
I haven't built a PC in quite some time, but one day I'll get back into it.
I also own a switch and loved it but my left Joycon got drift and I couldn't be bothered getting another one.
These days I am mainly gaming on my phone through emulators then if I have time at night I'll hit my VR.
I owned a mega drive as well, I recall how much I hit up Altered Beast and MJ Moonwalker haha

A small form factor PC might be better than a pi, but yeah screens a bit tricky as the railing in the cabinet needs to be just right for it

I started out with C64, Amiga then got into consoles. For the last 25 years only been playing PC games. Splashed out on a new PC about a year ago. Similar to another post. 3080, 12700k. Also bought Reverb G2 VR, flight sim yoke and throttle. Then found my old steering wheel in the corner of a cupboard. Wish I hadn't found it because I know have a complete Sim rig with wheels, pedals, race seat all attached to a metal frame and I just ordered a H-Shifter. It is pretty sick using it with VR.

Yeah, I was into emulators for a while. Ahh, the memories came flooding back. Even bought a joypad to play them on my PC, lol!
Then I got one of those Pandora's Box type arcade emulators from eBay, similar to this one:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/266081655474
When I was a kid, I was scrounging up every 20c coin I could get just to be able to play the OG SF at the arcades. This thing allowed me to go back to that time and play the same games endlessly for free? It was a no brainer, haha!
Enjoyed it for a while, then I lost the bloody power adaptor while moving house and it's been collecting dust since then.
If you want to get one of these, make sure you research thoroughly about the hardware, like how good the joysticks are, etc. A wonky joystick is like being stuck with a wonky arcade cabinet for life!

Not really a hardcore competitive gamer but I do enjoy casual games and the occasional racing sims.
More often I get drawn into a game that’s story-driven. I recently got to play The Last of Us again because of the recent hype from the HBO show and it was amazing!

You can plug into TV and get a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse
Of course, but that's not really the point.
If you're going to do it, go the full Monty and build a proper MAME cabinet, with decals and lighting.
And like GFM said, you need quality parts for the stick and buttons, my preference are the SANWAs, I've got a custom built stick which I was planning to strip for the parts.

They are lovely convex buttons. Don't like concaves personally, but I think those are more American style sticks and buttons.

Back in my uni days playing wow, only BC expansion was out but met a milf online and she was a freak.
We voice chat and suddenly she would just masturbate with her vibrator, she didnt care if I heard her but we had some interesting sessions. She was a stay at home wife.
I rememberee her fondly however I wasnt the only one she was talking with, basically the whole server knew her so she has to change her character name and transfer.
Fun times.

Hey guys! As a fellow gaming enthusiast, I totally get the excitement of finding games that offer real-money rewards. I've had a blast exploring different platforms and discovering a few hidden gems. From my experience, it's important to strike a balance between enjoying the game itself and aiming for those potential winnings. Some games offer great in-game economies where you can trade or sell virtual items for real money, while others have tournaments or competitions that reward winners with actual cash. So, if you're into gaming and looking for some added thrill, there are definitely games you can win real money (https://joywallet.com/article/games-that-pay-real-money/), just keep exploring and enjoy the journey!

I'm waiting for the next gen of handhelds personally. I don't have that much time to full on sit in front of a TV or monitor for too long periods so handheld gaming is generally where it's at for me.

Maybe for games that are usually played on consoles or with a joypad. Can't imagine how it would work with games that require keyboard and mouse.
What do you do when you need to look at your keyboard, take off the headset? That's gonna be so clunky.

Been playing a fair bit of switch with my daughter and have been thinking about updating my PC to play Diablo 4 but I can’t justify the investment when I just don’t have the time or want to put in the effort into playing games. Other things are just either more important or easier with less investment of time and money.
But on a side tangent I’ve started getting into playing more board games and have started getting out my old Warhammer stuff to get back into painting miniatures. All the stuff I couldn’t leave out with a young child around the house I can now do again.

VR headsets have "passthrough" modes where you can see through the headset without taking it off. Older ones like my Quest 2 only have Black and White passthrough, but the more modern ones have full colour high def.

VR 100% is the future of gaming. We can only get so far in graphics and control schemes via KB n Mouse and gamepads, until it's about total immersion.

Seeing as my most common opponent is my 8 year old I try to keep it fairly simple. Camel Up is always fun, Munchkin has been good.
Before the Child at my old work I used to play D&D with the IT department as well as Catan, ticket to ride, Carcassonne, a bit of MtG and IÂ’ve got Descent that we tried to play through twice but it just takes too long

1000% chef,
One of the key reasons I bought the Quest 2 is it's entirely standalone save for internet required to setup the unit and download the games in the first place. But unless the game is 100% online (maybe something like population 1 which is essentially fortnite in VR) all other games do not require any internet or tethering to PC to function at all.
What's even better though is that the Quest2 CAN play PCVR games just fine provided your PC specs are up to snuff using either Airlink Wifi, A tethering cable, or the one I use which I find amazing is Virtual Desktop where you wifi link to your PC and you actually control your PC in a virtual environment.
Also, a number of games are "crossbuy" where buying the quest 2 standalone version automatically gives you the ability to get the PCVR version (or Rift) for free.
E.g thrill of the fight, into the radius are examples I have

Been playing Last Epoch to tide me over till BG3 and Starfield later in the year.

Costumes for the 'Waifus'? You're sick in the head.
WH40K FTW!

Not that anyone asked or anything but I can comfortably say I can beat anyone here in a Halo 1v1, any of the games doesn't matter if you are an old-head or a new mechanics guy :)

What about VR/AR gaming? Do you guys reckon it’ll be more mainstream soon with more exciting games? Was always hesitant on investing on those headsets.
There are some great games on VR headsets. Some star wars stuff and some pretty tense shooters. They are very immersive snd exhausting. Recommended.

Nice to see all these gamers around!
VR headsets have "passthrough" modes where you can see through the headset without taking it off. Older ones like my Quest 2 only have Black and White passthrough, but the more modern ones have full colour high def.
Go look at "emuvr" I'm planning to install it when I get time, though I'm hoping my PC can handle it haha.
VR 100% is the future of gaming. We can only get so far in graphics and control schemes via KB n Mouse and gamepads, until it's about total immersion.
I love the fuck out of my VR headset best thing I've bought. If I have time I'm on 11table tennis, Pistol Whip, Into the Radius (awesome game) and blacktop hoops.
If anyone here wants to get a quest 2 btw let me know, I can provide a refferal link where we will both get around 40 dollars to use in the app shops.
@Daffy
That's great, I dabbled in WH briefly but it was too expensive to keep going. I do love the universe/lore and the digital games they have, I remember how much I played Dawn of War when it came out
How good is "superhot"!

I'm just waiting for someone to use VR or AR in the sex industry to turn a 1/10 into a 10/10 hottie. All you need is real human body warmth and a hole to get the ultimate experience.
Just don't ever take off the goggles midway, lol!
Believe me, the hotties are there in full HD on the VR porn sites. 69s are as clear as real life.

Playing Final Fantasy 16 last night. Combat has got real boring…
I think FF7 Remake (part 1) was better…

Ain't no way. Were you the 'best out of your friends' good or 'mlg try hard' good?

Super smash bros melee will always be my number 1 game. Over 20 years old and the competitive scene is stronger than ever.

Never saw the appeal of Smash despite being a hardcore fighting game fan back in the day.
Might have to give it a try when I got time, have a Ninty emulator I can use.
Which version/year whatever is considered the best, and good pickup character for someone new?

The appeal was sitting down with your friends/siblings and getting Nintendo characters to beat the shit out of each other lmao
I personally think melee is the best in the series. It has the most in depth mechanics and the player skill level just keeps on getting higher.
You can maybe look at marth or shiek gameplay and see if you like it. Your username is also the most popular character in the game lol

I think that's why I didn't particularly latch on.
The game felt/looked like just a friend's muck around game for parties and not serious deep fighter.
It's sort of the same reason I don't really like the MK series as an FG, seems sort of shallow. Love the lore and universe though.
I'll try and stick on some SSB this weekend and try.
Cheers

I have hundreds of hours in each of the main games, I was very decent at all of them. Skill has dropped a bit to be honest but I occasionally hop on 3 and Reach to game with friends.

Started with C64, then amiga, mega drive, win 95 pc, then mix of pc and ps2, then ps3 and now ps4 with some pc gaming.
Remember trying emulation for the first time in the early 2000s and finally being able to finish some old games I never could due to save feature and the joys of walkthroughs.
Revisited emulation during lockdown via retroarch and got to revisit some classics such as MK trilogy, marvel super hero's and other arcade classics.
Don't have much time to game these days and tend to watch gamers on youtube. Currently watching theradbrad play God of war Ragnarök

Struggle at the moment to find the time and motivation to game like I used to. Last game I was big into was Starcraft II and that was years ago at this point! Gaming comes and goes for me so I'm sure I'll play some of the newer big ones at some point in the next year.

Now playing Dead island 2 on PS5. Mindless fun with great graphics and bright HDR.
It’s Something to play until October 20 when Spider-Man 2 is out!! I’m calling in sick when it’s out!

With all the games mentioned there's gotta be few rage quitters out there.

Pretty sure Moba games (league and dota) has the highest rate of rage quitting over all, with fighting games (SF Tekken etc) a close 2nd!

I’ve been playing Alan Wake remastered on PS5 and I’m now replaying CONTROL. Can’t wait for Alan Wake 2 in October..
Red dead redemption 1 is being released on PS4 next week. (No PS5 version…) maybe I’ll buy it and play it again…

It's great to hear you're finding joy in different hobbies, especially with your daughter! I totally get where you're coming from with the dilemma of investing time and money into PC gaming. It's a big commitment.
Funny enough, I found myself in a similar situation a while back. With work and family commitments, diving into PC gaming seemed daunting. That's when I discovered boosteria.org (https://boosteria.org). While I wasn't ready to commit to intensive gaming sessions, I still wanted to stay connected to the gaming world.
