I've always thought that term was interchangeable with those working at a brothel. Escort, prostitute, hooker, working lady. I suppose the "higher class" prostitutes advertising at $500+/hr and referring to themselves as escorts has diluted the term.

But for the OP, try out Ginza @ Surry Hills. I don't favour Japanese girls much when I punt but whenever I do see one there, they're genuine.
