A couple of really cool tracks have been spinning around my head and my playlist.

Yumi Arai - Rouge No Dengon.
If you love Hayao Miyazaki, and a great track from the mid 70's.
https://youtu.be/iH32qCUowew

AKB48 - Heavy Rotation.
The greatest JPop song of all time.
https://youtu.be/lkHlnWFnA0c

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - PONPONPON.
A nice track from a time long ago, it would seem.
https://youtu.be/yzC4hFK5P3g

Tugging at my heartstrings, ever so tightly.
In the space between a blink and a tear,
Death blooms.

A J-Pop connoisseur? Was a fan of Utada Hikaru while I was there. Just loved how she bypassed the system designed to churn out pretty pop stars by making a name for herself in the states and then returning to Japan. Even when she was interviewed she just wouldn't fit the mould they wanted her to. Plus she is a talented young lady. Addicted to you. Wait and see. Soundtrack to my time there (along with Hamasaki Ayumi. God I loved her...)

By no means a connoisseur my friend.
I was really into Jpop and Cosplay, artists like Yohio were my favs. And early AKB48, I forget some of the others (Harajuku bridge cosplay based on the fashion culture, not the gaming/movie phenomenon it has become). And then, Japan and I had a rather large falling out. For many years. I wouldnt even eat sushi, weird huh?
If you have any suggestions, please send more my way.

Will dig through my old collection for a look.

Have you given Babymetal a run?
Metal elitists rag out on them, and they are a bit bubblegum, BUT as much as their first album was a vit of fun (with some good songs), their second musically was in fact very good (employing a full-time band of serious metal musicians helped.) Karate was popular but the song Sis Anger is death metal with a cute Japanese girl singing about how annoying boys are.. Their live shows are utterly insane. https://youtu.be/MNFJR-W05c8

Yeah I hear you. I used to live there and after a rather messy break up and departure I fell out of love. But soon normality was restored and I fell back in love with it. Wonderful place. Beautiful people. Fantastic girls..

Gorgeous Korean ML put me onto Alone in Toyko - Lianne La Havas. Posted it on her Insta stories. So now we play it in the room. Nice. cool vibe.
Also Billie Eilish - same ML.
With a polish ML who spotifys or youtube from our phones - we've played russian folk songs (shes got a masters in languages russian, czech, polish, english), Seekers - Carnival is Over which steals the riff from a russian song , New years day - u2 about Polish solidarity movement and Holy Grail by H&C - Napoleons failed attempt at Russia. ML claims that the Polish were the only ones to capture Moscow. Not sure thats true and it was a Polish-Lithuanian force anyway.
Still the music adds so much to the sessions imo.

She must be a big fan of the Polish Winged Hussars.
Those guys were fearsome warriors.
One of the best cavalries of all time. They won numerous battles, perhaps most notably they turned the tide in the Battle of Vienna (1683) and thus stopped the Ottoman/Muslim conquest of Western Europe.

Digging November rain too. Bit of an all time fav.

The ending to the song, often cut by moronic radio stations, is utter brilliance, and resonates rather strongly with me.

Burt was a fucking genius for sure but Hal doesn't get the kudos he deserves.
Hal wrote the brilliant, witty, sexy, "shallow but deep" lyrics to most of Burt's tunes.
Dionne Warwick probably does the best job of the Burt and Hal songs but really even I sound good good singing those songs, they are just so fucking brilliant.

My fav shop has moved on from tinkling pianos muzak to some decent music.
A punter's hooked up what seemed to be mostly Oz 80's stuff for the lovely lady that runs the shop. Oz crawl, Mondo rock altho even Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah got in there. Nice.

Nice. So sick of The Carpenters, piano versions of pop love songs etc.

It's like a drug Warwick.
You start out with a little guns n roses, or ACDC, maybe some Metallica Black album, eventually you think "Hmmm I want some more.. Something heavier."
Next you find yourself with some Slayer, Megadeth and Exodus, but it's not enough, so then you're on Gojira, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Meshuggah... before you know it you're covered in corpse paint holding up a sign saying "Will drop pants for death growls and 300bpm double bass kicks" and that's it, you're a metal junkie. And everyone is left wondering what happened, how did they not notice the signs?

It's not for everyone, like food and comedy, tastes are different and that's what makes life interesting.
I can't for the life of me understand why someone would like modern jazz, it sounds like a bunch of preschoolers let loose in a music shop to me, but if that floats someone's boat then I wish them well. Death Metal is certainly an acquired taste but you should see how crazy the Scandinavians go for it.

Mate I understand its a totally personal thing I still get off on CCR and AC/DC and love Bach, thats the great thing about music..cheers

I started on Punky stuff first, Greenday, Offspring, NoFX that kind of thing. There is also one band with a really wild bassist I can remember forbthe life of me. They have an odd name should be easy to remember, but age 🙄.

That got me to I think Rage against the machine which got me to lets say Korn and it went from there as AF mentions.

I think Pantera's Vulgar display of power was what turned me. WALK and FUCKING HOSTILE were next level for me at that time.

Theres still metal im not a fan of, like I wasnt that inpressed by the Opeth clip (not... "riffy" enough for me if that makes sense) but I may love another song from them If i listened to more.

I would say there isnt necessarily genres I dont like, just songs, as a musician, you just tend to appreciate the skill behind it regardless of what genre it is

EDIT: i think it was Incubus for the band with the bassist

I am surprised I am not a metal head, it was all around me growing up and in my early 20's. I do have some fond memories and I still like some mainstream stuff. My step-mum worked for a record company in the warehouse and we'd get to work there on school holidays.....I remember having a decent Black Sabbath collection as a result.

Not Black Sabbath, but a favourite and classic from my early teen years, I am sure my parents thought I was worshipping the devil. 🤣

The Carter Family.
Good, solid, God fearing, decent, hard working folk.
Plow a corn field all day and then drive into town in a beaten up Buick jalopy, and record some tracks, and then drive back to the farm, make love to your Betrothed, and then wake up at dawn and do another hard day's work working the land.

Anyways, no shit talk in my case (I don't think so), just giving up on a hopeless situation. Probably for the best. Song is a bit heavy for my situation, but the chorus is kinda apt. Actually, the title says it all.

Yeah agree, you've got to let Weird Al have a crack, takes himself too seriously. Love Dre too. Am an old NWA fan, loved each of the members solo work too, probably most of all Ice Cube though.

On your song, sometimes we just have to be like Run DMC and just walk this way. It sucks, we've all been there, I broke up with a 22 year old Korean girl not long ago, not a worker, just a gorgeous girl who was half my age and could do better than me anyway. It was great while it lasted but sometimes things aren't meant to be.

Then it all changed.
One by one things started falling into place. Just like Cube I even shot some hoops with my daughter, which I rarely do and I suck, and was dropping 3's with nothing but net.
Now I'm off to meet a 'friend'. Think Mari Bambei in glasses type look, just a bit more puppy fat.. but so damn cute.

Keeping up with a 22 year old Korean girl takes more energy than I recall.. slept for 10 hours, been a long time since that happened.

When I first listened to hip hop and rap in the 80s and 90s I realised most of it was sampling but I only really appreciated as I got older. I love this video of how Prodigy's Smack my bitch up was put together.

So err.. I'm raving in my living room all by myself... Like a lunatic possessed because of that drum loop... All I'm missing is dropping a tab of acid! This video brought me to making of Firestarter, another menacing track that my body won't sit still too...! Thanks for sharing, it was epic...

I love this live version of White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.
Dunno the guitarist's name or if he is one of the original members but he is awesome.
And I love the way Glace Slick holds off on the vocals for 5 minutes. That's musicianship. Or maybe just being stoned. LOL!

When I see the boy pinned to your earlobe
He's talking shit and you crack a smile
When he tell you that he can go buck wild
For a girl like you and make it feel good
You know it's drama but it sound real good
He started dragging and hopefully he can start tagging
The pussy so he can keep bragging
He say, "I'm 'a leave baby, can you go with me?"
You want to do it but you feeling like a H-O-E
You grab his hand, you leave and it's over
'Cause the nigga ain't nothing but a rover
Ya knew the game and you still ended up on your back
Now ask yourself

Ok this is a bit obscure but stay with me.
There is a scene in Martin Scorsese's masterpiece Goodfellas where Ray Liotta the narrator is talking about all the characters in a nightclub.
The song playing in the background Il cielo in una stanza is sung by Italian chanteuse Mina (a legend) and the song was written by Gino Paoli, and Gino basically wrote the song after a mind blowing and spirit lifting encounter with a pretty prostitute.

I'm not usually this nerdy or obsessive but you two sound like you are genuinely interested so I'll post a few links.

Here is the scene in Goodfellas with the song playing in the background.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpmtMyr6orE

Scorsese must love this song because here is a ad for Dolce & Gabbana directed by Scorsese with the song and Scarlett Johansson and Matthew McConaughey both looking very elegant
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHCWvMt5VCA

And here is Mike Patton lead singer of Faith No More who covered this song on his album of Italian 60s pop covers Mondo Cane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR-oFx4SIlA

And finally here is a quote from the Wikipedia entry for the song where the songwriter Gino Paoli explains it:
Paoli explained that the song was inspired by the one-night relationship with a prostitute: "I wanted to describe the moment in which you are in a bed with a woman, you just had sex, and in the air you feel a sort of magic, which you don't know where it comes from and which immediately vanishes. In that moment you understand that you are nobody, but there's the whole world in your soul. Obviously I could not put in the lyrics the central moment of the story, the sex act. And I started to go around in circles, talking about the rumours in the street, the walls... a spiral path in which the unsaid triumphs" Wow! That is so Zen and so intense at the same time, Those bloody Italians take their sex seriously. LOL!

"Hi this is Marissa can I start with your account number please."
"Oh.. hang on.. sorry Marissa.. I was just really enjoying the music.."
"Really? What was playing?"
"Earth wind and fire, September."

There were some pretty good songs in the 80s. This was not one of them.

I posted this song in a tiny desk. Very apt song for punting.

+ 1 here. One of my favourite tunes from one promising MC...sadly gone but not forgotten.

This is my fav Mac Miller tune, probably because of the funky Thundercat baselines.

Cunts be threatening me, spraying my house with bullets, raping and strangling family members......guess it's my (or their) moment of truth. Over nothing. Stay off the drugs fellas.
