Appearance is only a smal part of it. The majority of hosts are not conventionally handsome. A lot of them are pretty weedy guys caked in makeup. However, they are trained by the club to know how to manipulate vulnerable women. They are literally given scripts to work off. Your average girl isn't going to fall for it, but, just like punters who fall in love with WL, there are plenty of girls who fall for the act of a host.
The first visit is usually free or very cheap. The host will use this visit to form a connection and get a bead on what kind of woman he is dealing with. He wants someone who will be taken in hook, line and sinker. Numbers are exchanged. He will text all the girls on his roster with the same scripted slop. Smart girls see this for what it is, but vulnerable girls tell themselves that it is real. These guys are very smooth operators. They have all the industry secrets and know exactly what to say. A classic line is, "I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I want to cook some congee for you to make you feel better." Some customers lap this shit up.
He will make promises to the women on his roster, telling them that he is so busy with work. If only his rank was higher (Hosts are ranked based on how much money they bring in to the club), he wouldn't need to work as hard, and he could spend more quality time with her. Customers are charged more and more for repeat business, drinks get more and more expensive as the night goes on, and if they aren't careful, customers end up going into debt. They are encouraged to bring their friends in to support their favourite host, and the cycle begins again.
It's basically toxic punting for women, and it' not that different to punters who go to sex shops, strip clubs etc. Women go to have their emotional needs met. The hosts make them feel beautiful and desired.
One interesting takeaway is that it's really not all about looks. Hosts are automatically considered to be attractive because they are marketed as such by the shops. "If he works here then he must be attractive." "If my friend thinks he is attractive, he must be attractive." "He is so confident and cool around women, so he must be attractive." Punters face the opposite perception. "If he's punting, he must be unattractive."
Hosts are basically scumbag psychopaths- true wolves in sheep's clothing. Their goal is to completely empty the accounts of their marks and place them in debt. The average WL is way more ethical. There is an honesty to most punting transactions. I pay for sex, then I leave. If it was any good, I might come back. WL aren't looking to completely financially ruin you.
