John Coltrane - Giant Steps.
Beautiful stuff.
First time I heard this album I went to a pawn shop and hocked the beautiful Omega watch my grandmother gave me and a bought a saxophone.
After months of fruitless effort and realising how hard it is to play the fucker I went back to the pawn shop and hocked it for cash and then spent the proceeds on a trip to the Gold Coast and drugs.
My grandmother wasn't rich - far from it - that watch was probably a few years worth of savings from her pension.
Every time she saw me she asked me why i wasn't wearing the watch she gave me and every time i made up bull shit excuse, and I felt like a complete cunt.
Anyway Giant Steps is a great album and Coltrane was a fucking maestro and a fucking genius.
