The best/worst hard luck story was from about 30 years ago in the US. An ML accused a client of being the father of her child. He denied it and pointed out that he could not be because of a Vascectomy 5 years earlier (after the birth of his second legitimate child). Case closed: Umm - Not quite. The ML made a big fuss and a court ordered DNA testing to close the issue. It proved he was the father - the vascectomy had spontaneously healed as they very rarely can. Next stage the guy sued the Surgeon and was awarded $5 million, however, the court intervened and required the money be paid to the ML for the child's up-bringing. Meanwhile another court where his wife was suing for divorce ruled that she would get their house plus financial support for their two children.

All done and dusted - not quite, because he was a decent guy albeit a total mug, he used to look after his and the ML's son occasionally. He had the child stay with him for a weekend and the ML did not appear on the Sunday to pick him up.

She had flown back to Korea the previous Friday with all the money, never to be heard from again.
