Very true. My old GP told me everything about sexual health as she use to work for the sexual health unit in Parramatta. I moved out of the area and live in the eastern suburbs now. When I was seeing her, she said that transmission rates are low for heterosexual couples. That's why when you call the sexual health unit at NSW Health, they always ask if your gay or straight. The transmission rate amongst gay men is higher because of the risk of blood to blood contact. And even still, most gat men are either taking PeP (post exposure prophylaxis) or PrEP (pre exposure prophylaxis). PeP is after sex and PrEP is before sex. In actual fact, because of these drugs, transmission rates are relatively low but as always, there is still a risk. That's why if you go through NSW health for a health check, they generally do not put you in the high risk category.
