The Politics Thread - Sydney option

With the next Federal Election only a month away, I was wondering if there was a thread about election or politics before and found this one. There were some bitching going on here but a few interesting and meaningful replies as well.

The original thread was 11 years old in the Brisbane GT section and talking about Tony Abbott at the time, gee, hadn't time flown !!

Looking back a bit, since the steady hands of Johnny Howard, we had 7 different Prime Ministers (with Kevin Rodd making a brief return but gone again when he loss to Abbott).

Personally I think the Labours had a good run with Hawke and Keating, then it's the LNP's turn with Johnny. They were all good PMs in my book, compare to the bunch we got today at Canberra, which is pretty ordinary to say the least. Our close friend the USA didn't do too well either, look at what Trump and Joe and now Trump again have done to their country !

So, what do we have here, Albo again or Dutton ?

    What say you ?

With the choice we have, it’s obvious why the informal vote (as well as the teal vote) is increasing.
Today’s election highlight was Albo tumbling off the stage. Alarmingly reminiscent of bumbling Joe Biden….

Are you really going to cast your vote based on someone tripping up? Come on, surely you can have a bit more depth? Ideas don't matter, the guy just doesn't have to look sheepish.... Is that it?

    100% with Albo.
Or should I say 100% AGAINST Dutton:
    - dodgy insider trader MOFO
    - huge house-flipper. This makes him an active contributor to the housing crisis, not just someone who doesn't do anything to fix it!
    - looks like a potato
    - Trump fanboi with nowhere near the intellect or support as Trump has
    - says he's gonna cut loose 40k Government employees. Where do you think they're gonna go?
    - 80%+ of jobs in the market now are Gov jobs. He's gonna stop the hiring. Guess what's gonna happen to the Aussie job market?
    - what's his plan against cutting Gov spending? Trump has tariffs, MAGA, presumably resulting in lots more production jobs in the USA to offset those job losses (hopefully). That's Trump's plan.... I think! What's Dutton's plan?

Too right. You forgot to add his crazy plan for nuclear reactors, sometime in the never never. A ridiculous expensive concept (no plan, no costings, just an idea) that has only one motivation: so Gina and Clive can sell more fossil fuels in the interim. Dutton’s billionaire supporters are worried about having stranded assets (coal and gas fields that they can’t exploit). And people are dumb enough to fall for the avalanche of propaganda generated by Gina, Clive and Rupert’s billions. Reminds me of the classic Monty Python line when Brian is addressing the masses:
“You’ve got to think for yourselves.”
    “We do.”
    “I don’t.”

Albo has been the worst Prime Minister in Australian History followed by K Rudd. Totally screwed the country

Your argument against Dutton is correct, but albo is just as bad as Dutton.

They are both fuckwits playing each side of the political spectrum that either way it swings, one fucks over the other and vice versa.

The older I get the more I realise that politics is influenced by money for making more money and the average man can't seem to get a break.

They’re both horrid choices. If Chris Minns was running for PM in federal politics, I’d vote for Labor. Minns at least has a spine and is willing to stand up to the outrageous demands from the rail union even though the unions are key backers of his party.

Albo is afraid act unless Rupert fires him. We know who’s really running the country. but the administration has actually been pretty good, far better than past liberal governments. Inflation is a bitch but it’s an international problem and a government can’t do much about it in fact. Dutton is a blow hard. He says anything to suit the occasion. He has no policies whatsoever. As for the fight over Trump tariffs, Albo is doing the right thing and staying low key and staying out of the shit fight in my view.

I reckon Albo’s had a sneaky punt or two in his time, living all those years in Balmain and Marrickville. Even if it was just ‘accidently’ mistaking an RNT for a legit massage place and getting a happy ending, right?

Dutton probably sees prostitutes and punters as barely a step above criminals (regardless of the legality status in any particular jurisdiction) and would be too full of self-loathing if he gave it a try.

Can't argue with you about Albo. I don't think he's good either, but it's just a case of the lesser of 2 evils.

Dutton simply has way too many red flags to ignore, plus a change in government is always going to be disruptive and costly. Projects that the current Gov has spent $$$ on might suddenly be scrapped leaving us with nothing to show for it.

In other words, people need to understand the full impact when they vote a different party into power.

Dutton has all the horrible policies in my book. Cut down 40k jobs , spend billions on nuclear power plant, Stop WFH and they don't even have a clear plan. A guy who left his electorate for a dinner party in Sydney to join his millionaire friends is not to be trusted. He also has that dodgy shares deal in his resume and I'm sure he would chase his dream to privatise Medicare (the way libs started cutting funds to healthcare and as result we have a co-payment now).Frankly, I wish I could vote for Chris Minns to become PM instead of Albo

Just watch Jane Hume's (Shadow finance) interview on ABC, she is clueless. Lambie embarrassed her quite well.

Albo is not what I expected but Dutton is 100 times worse . I just hope he retires from politics, can't think of anyone more hateful than him. I am all with Malcolm Turnbull. He makes the worst prime minister for a multicultural country.
