Bringing Back Memories
Happy Ending:
Called a girl I'd seen several times for an outcall afternoon delight. Would pick her up at the usual spot. I get there, park, standing on the sidewalk. Another girl walks up, introduces herself, a friend of my friend. WTF?! I call the original, get the shitload of excuses, she's busy, something came up (right, better offer), etc., etc. I should try her friend, she's new. Friend not bad, why not? I do, she becomes a semi-regular for afternoon delights. Original contact deleted. Eventually, lose contact.
Epilogue:
Couple of years later, I'm at the airport, waiting for a flight. See her in the terminal. Eyes meet, nod, we're both unaccompanied, she comes over to say hi, do I remember her? Yes, I do. Have a nice chat while waiting for flights. She's now working as a cashier at a supermarket: "Much less money, but a job I can be proud of, tell my family". She's going home on a home leave. Each head off to our own gates (and lives).
Tunnel Vision
Friend knows a girl who has an available back door. I give her a call, arrange an outcall afternoon delight, first time meet. I'm at home, waiting for her to arrive. Wait, wait, wait; she's very late. Mobile rings, the taxi can't find my place. I say we'll meet at a close landmark. Go there to pick her up. There's a problem. The taxi driver wants more money for his losing time, trying to extort a PRC WG. I walk over, say hi, he's a taxi driver, what does his meter say? Should I report him for not being able to follow directions? I give him a five to end the discussion.
I turn around, now there's 2 girls standing there. Hmmm. Off we go to my place. Inside, Miss BD says, "this my friend, she new, just arrive, you take her". I don't want to discuss specifics in front of her colleague; girls can be shy as to exactly what services they offer in front of dorm mates. So we're having a general discussion of who I called and who I want to see, while Newbie is sitting silently on the couch, staring out the window. Given I know neither, and she's new, 3some not on the agenda. Eventually BD and I go upstairs, leaving Newbie sitting in the living room.
Upstairs, we continue the discussion; things go as you'd expect. I'm not happy, she's not happy, port of interest not available. Her available assets meager, as is the service. We finish, no need to linger. Pay her, go downstairs, There's Newbie, sitting on the couch, hasn't moved, still staring out the window. It's VERY quiet.
Out to my car, off we go to the taxi park. Of course, on arrival, no taxis. I wait outside, they both walk into a McDonalds. I go inside, they're sitting in a booth. BD is drinking a small coke, Newbie is eating a junior hamburger with fries. As I watch, Newbie turns around to the booth behind her, engaging with and entertaining a small kid. Now I know they are NOT speaking the same language, but the kid is absolutely delighted with her, just LOL (parents more than happy to have the kid pleasantly occupied). I wait, see a taxi arrive, go outside to flag him, BD and Newbie join me.
I hand BD taxi money for the trip home. To add insult to injury, BD says not enough, they're not going "home" but across town. I just tell her that's HER problem, take it and go. They do. During the whole time, I have not heard Newbie say a SINGLE word, just there, occupying space, absorbing events.
I go home, absolutely STEAMED. What an absolute disaster. What a fucking... ... ... (wait for it)... ... ... (wait for it)... ... ... (wait for it)... ... ... IDIOT I AM. Total tunnel vision, couldn't see the obvious. Newbie certainly not exceptional, but not bad... and her composure, after all the crap, her entertaining the kid in Mac's... Obviously, would have been the correct choice. I have no doubt she'd have been a lot of fun, new not a problem. I'm thinking, damn, is it any wonder they develop a shell so quickly; a present, but non-person.
Decades later, still remember; NOT my finest hour.
