I get logged out while im browsing the site regularly. Sometimes less than 5 minutes others if i click an external link and come back in a couple of minutes.

Is it something in my settings?

Tick the box that says to keep you logged in. I had the same problem, but that box solved it for me. Likely a combination of private mode and changing IP address. That box should set a cookie which will remain until you close the browser session.
