It's like the casino they lend money to gamblers knowing they will lose it back anyway.
$5000 from one and $2000 from another. At that stage we were fucking outside the shop so no spend from me other than the initial few visits. And they’d been to my place and trusted me.
    YMMV

People can be slow to pay sometimes so outgoings were higher than incomings.
I was also 10-15 years younger.

I strongly* doubt any WL would lend thousands of their hard earned cash literally with sweat and tears to a punter.

Well, perhaps not that common, but then winning 3k at the pokies and giving it all to a ML not so common either, methinks. But certainly possible.

Trouble with a cash business is where do you keep the cash? Sure, a bank, but then you're probably paying taxes and filing tax returns. If not, your options can be limiting. Safe deposit box, but that too is paperwork to have an account. Under your mattress, but that might get a bit lumpy, and not all that secure. A boss, but that limits your movement. Now, loaning some to someone you trust... dispersing your assets can be a smart move. Risk to everything, but dispersing risk helps. And with undeclared cash, your options for LE are very limited... they do ask a lot of questions. 20 years ago, one BFL was telling how she'd lost 15k USD to a burglary break-in when no-one was there; couldn't report it to LE. Wasn't a sob story, just a matter of fact telling. Seemed to be one of many risks in the business, just one I hadn't considered.

For me, no reason to doubt either story.

Well, if you go punt with a high priced escort and take a rain check (ie. Don't have enough $$$ to pay her today.... Maybe tomorrow), that's a loan right there. Only "unusual" part is she didn't know she was going to give you one, lollll

    “trust no one”

Is an expression used by some.

And "Trust but verify" is used by others.

Don’t know if she put it into the bank in Japan or kept it stashed at her parents place but I’d assume that they have similar laws to us in money laundering so if she put it into the bank she could not put over a certain amount at once
That doesn’t make sense. How would having a huge pile of NON-VALID foreign currency help her parents?

My guess would be like what many do: take a bit less than the paperwork reporting limit to a money changer, then to a bank. Or directly to a bank. Repeat as necessary. But I'm OLD - I remember travelers checks.

Perhaps there's no hawala money transfer agents in Oz_land, but methinks there just might be some.

I’ve heard of WL’s and ML’s having difficulty getting money back off their work colleagues. So why would they lend to a punter? Most punters are strapped just paying for a punt.

The keyword being most... Still, I'd imagine you would not be a likely candidate, not because you're not most, but because of your personality (or lack thereof). Just sayin...

    Often used by untrustworthy people.

I heard the same expression from a PMC. I espoused it and he confirmed that was his belief too as he was still around…

We all lack something. For some it’s self control. Others it may be ethics.

You are the sum total of your ancestor’s DNA and your societal upbringing.

I understand it’s very hard to change and you should respect those that have the ability or the mental fortitude to change for the better.

Until then the world won’t be a better place and it really is every man for himself.

Look what’s going on around in the world, it’s been the “same same” for eons. Nothing changes except the individual and unfortunately not enough individuals change to make a change.
