Plus they gamble alot. Also remember alot of financial services discriminate against those in the sex industry. The smart ones haves sex industry friendly accountants and invest their money in property.

If they manage to save and invest then good on them. I understand the curiosity but they are making good money in return of something which is way more precious and that is their well-being and mental health. I am not suggesting that all would experience uncomfortable episodes in their lives but I think this profession is quite taxing on them. Tbh, I don't care about their bank accounts ( and some may say then why post this, a fair argument!) but each to their own. It is not an easy job.

I know a recently retired ML made do with about half a mil in the bank (could be more in stocks) after less than 3 years in the game. She’s still very young so has set herself up very nicely

The very established tech stocks may pay dividends but the vast majority do not.

Nah, the tech stocks, for the most part are a gamble, you put your money in on the hope that they go up. If they start going up, they need more cash, so they raise more money, dilute your EPS, and put the money into more future development so you are never going to get a dividend, and the money is only on the capital gains. God knows how that will go after 30JUN 2027 as Albo and Jim will be taking a far greater share of what you get. If you want dividends than banks, miners, telstra etc are a far better bet. In fact, the dividend pay outs are going up to attract capital as if they are only paying 5% you can get that by putting funds into a bank (let's leave the franking part out of the case for a bit)

I have about $900K in shares at the moment and I get paid about $55k so that is like about a 6% return, but then as that is legit money, you need to pay tax on that (I am ignoring franking credits). Who's comfortable enough to work only 2 days a week with $55k a year less tax? I mean half of that would be gone on rent and living costs alone.

Either way, my question on her having $500k in shares is I find it hard to believe that as most girls are working in shops, that they are declaring more than the hourly rates that they are being paid by the shop as legit income on their tax return. Meaning all the money she is paid for as "extras" is cash.

If she buys a car in cash from a dealer they need to report all cash transactions of $9,999 to AUSTRAC
If she puts more than $9,999 into her bank account at once, they too report her to AUSTRAC
If she puts funds regularly into her account, the bank may report her to AUSTRAC

How does she then get $500k into her account, transferred to her chosen platform and purchased. I mean I have a large portfolio and that has taken me years to build up so I would assume it would have taken her a few years to get that all set up as it is not like you can purchase the stocks all at the same time, dollar cost averaging etc.

My point is that to avoid suspicion cash needs to be moved slowly and regularly and takes a lot of thought. She is probably in the position where she has more cash coming in than she has the capacity to move into bank accounts.

Now on an the Japanese working ladies, I talk to the ones I see and they all tend to save their cash as they are working so much, and they are coming here to work so no play time, and they don't spend. They save their money as cash, and some put it into their Australian bank accounts in small amounts $800 or so at a time, and then transfer to wise where they transfer to JPY and bank to their own JPY account in Japan. The rest, they save and put in their suitcase and take back as undeclared cash to japan in their check in luggage.

Most of the time, they are staying at dormitories with other girls so they share rooms and look out for each other. I talk to one girl (ML) and in the 6 months I have known here she has been to Bali once, Japan 3 times and she takes back $20K a time and wants to open her own waxing salon in Saitama Japan once she finishes.

I have talked to another one about business and for a 27 year old she sure knows a lot of stuff and could easily hold her own in a conversation with me.

Sure, there are others, who probably spend it as soon as they get back, but for some, it can really set them up for life.

You mean their carry-on luggage right? Who in their right mind would put cash, especially lots of it, in check-in luggage? That's like the worst thing anyone can do.

Who in their right mind would carry $20k in their carry-on? Yes, doable and feasible, but increasingly risky. Wearing jewellery is a bit different and generally easier to explain.

There are still plenty of informal cash transfer networks between Australia and destination countries, and they work both ways.

An individual can carry any amount of cash into Japan, but if it is more than USD 6,700, about 10,000 AUD, it has to be declared to customs/Tax authorities. There are alternative legitimate methods of transferring cash, either directly or through a third party

And how does a WL happen to put upward of $50k of undeclared and non tax paid cash into bank accounts to transfer it overseas? That is the crux of the problem?

Legitimate means .. implies visibility.. there are less legitimate and straightforward means to transfer large even 6 zero sums in/out of country.. zero visibility - works like FLOO POWDER

What you do in country less straightforward if the amounts are regular and large to very large.

AND risky AF to take undeclared 10k AUD or more out of or into a country .. YES unlimited declared amounts can be carried - however defeats the cash incentive

Get caught and can be MAX penalty of 2 yrs and $182,000

So yes risky AF to regularly take 20k in your carry on

Where there’s a will there’s a way. Crypto is one way they can do it but they’d have to buy it off-exchange using cash which is going to be high risk.

Another way is using illegal money transfer “agencies”. The agency would have cash on both sides of the transfer. The person transferring the cash would deposit their $50k cash here with the agency. At the same time the person’s friend or family can withdraw $50k less the agency fee in Japan.

    EDIT:
Forgot to mention the oldest trick in the book. They just hit the pokies. Load up a machine with cash, slap a few times, then cash out. Now you have a legit cheque or transfer from a gaming operator for your “winnings”.

Not all that operate within the HAWALA classification unnecessarily illegal all or even some of the time - local licensing determines

Yes this is it. I didn't know it had a name, I just had an acquaintance who made a fortune running this scheme to help rich mainland Chinese move their money out of China. Made millions out of it.
