We don't purposely double book, there is never a good outcome when double book happens. What happens is only one reception only at a time usually man the bookings, however there are 2 shifts, daytime and nighttime reception, and sometimes there is a communication issue or miswriting on the booking list. Sometimes there are also factors we cant control like girls being late etc. On busy days we usually have around 20-50 phone bookings a day, and many walk in customers, so typos do happen sometimes. 10-20% of the phone bookings usually end up changing their times as well ("Hi ill be half hr late, or hi ill be 20 mins early, oh sorry i couldnt make it please cancel, hi ill bring a friend so please also book this one, etc) while at the same time on rush hours there could be up to 16 customers waiting at the waiting rooms all waiting to be served so things do get hectic a few times a day and however careful we try to make it, sometimes mistakes happen.
Receptions review the booking list periodically to make sure theres no mistakes and whenever they realize oh shit these 2 times contradict. Or sometimes a booking hasnt cum and wanna extend, just half more hr, sometimes it is difficult to say no. Sometimes (actually a lot of times!) girls are unreliable or have some emergency and come later than scheduled, messing up all the back to back bookings. These things happens as it is the nature of the industry. Procedure is to call the customer asap and be honest about it. Not switch n bait, like some other shops do. And offer discounts, $20-$50 usually depending how bad the mistake is. If customers have to wait 1 hr or more due to our mistake of course we offer heaps, we apologise profusely and say look we made a mistake, we cant fix it, however we can exchange $30 in return of them sitting down waiting 1 hour. We offer beer and soft drinks and refreshments. We believe thats fair, I cant say the same with other people but if someone were to offer to pay me $30/hr just to sit down drinking free beer or come back later I would be happy. If its a mere 10-15 minutes wait, of course much less. Or if they would rather choose another girl, we give a small discount too. As you know we only take $30-50 room rent fee per job, After rent electricity bills advertisements and salaries/wages/comissions for receptions managers advertisers drivers cleaners recruiters, net profit is much, much, much, less. Everything else is for the girls. We never cut the girls rate, only shop room rent fee we can cut, and even then the reception would already cop a lot of heat from the bosses. So even a $20 discount already means we do not take any profit at all from that booking. So we believe $20-$50 discount is fair. But yeah, we never ever purposely double book, on the opposite, its one of the scariest thing to happen that every reception fear!
