You can purchase condos (apartments) but not homes with land. The laws were supposed to protect Thais and prevent foreigners buying up properties which in turn would make it impossible for local Thais to own their own homes. There was some talk about changing the laws to generate more foreign investment in the country but I'm sure most Thais would be against such change.
