The way I stopped this from happening is by asking the doctor to give the meds but also tell him you understand exactly what's going to happen and why so you gotta promise to take the meds they gave you after you take the blood test.
In my case, my GP was in a medical centre that had a test collection facility very nearby. He gave me the script and testing doco all in one go. I vaguely recall he did tell me to go do the test immediately.

Still don't see the rationale behind docs not writing the script for the AZ without a positive test result, even with that explanation.

First, the patient is already in pain, suffering the symptoms.

Second, there's only 1 medication for the infections that cause that symptom, regardless of the type. Gonno or urethritis, you get AZ to cure it.

And most importantly, they have a responsibility to prevent the spread in society if it really was an STI. Who's to say the guy wouldn't go around fucking other partners before he comes in again to get the test results + script? He needs to be cured ASAP for the benefit of society, no?
