Affording = ability to buy. For instance. I can't afford a 10millon dollar boat. Because I physically don't have that kind of cash nor will the bank lend me.

If you can get a loan, and spend the rest of your life paying it. You can still "afford it" just with great difficulty.

But that's my opinion.

For instance if the housing market doubled tomorrow. But no wage increases.

Then we truely have unaffordable housing where even if people sold their kidneys, spent nothing, saved every penny. Still cant buy. That's my definition of unaffordable.
