You might want to consider yourself lucky. A mate of mine started to date a coworker, beautiful Japanese heritage girl, nice, SMART. Went on for awhile, then she broke it off. He was white, she was Japanese, her parents were traditional. The problem? They shared an office, not a bullpen, but a 2 person office. Had to see her, sit with her, every day for about a year. Management? "This isn't high school".
