Yeah, I only watched the highlights and the right hand attack from the Jamaican girls had tested our side in the second half, could be a lot tighter if they had better finishes.

Kerr was marked much tighter in the other two matches and that will happen again when we face the stronger teams . Mate, I admire your optimism on the NSW Blues this year but I think the Maroons will win in Perth and wrap up the series in Perth.

The 18-14 score lines might have given the Blues some hope and a false sense of security. Let’s not forget the Maroons played the first half a lot better than the Blues and could have been a few tries up already if they hadn’t had a couple disallowed and deadset bombed a few on the right hand side . It was straight after Corey Oakes’s disallowed first try that Morris scored. Then you guys all saw what happened in the second half when they tidy up a few things.

Well, only time will tell if Freddy is a genius in selection or it would bite him for panicking.

Personally I would have given Mitchell one more game to redeem himself who played a lot better on Sunday and scored two tries . He would have played 4 games with Carr on the left vs now they have another brand new combination with the Carr-Jack pairing and Wighton is playing out of position too.

As much as I love to see Ash Barty winning the French Open and her first personal grand slam victory but on a national scale it wasn’t as significant as the America's Cup - as many Aussie great ladies had won the French many times before. It would have been way behind Adam Scott’s winning the Master and wearing the Green jacket- first ever Australian player to achieve that !

For the Aussie girls to win the women’s World Cup, yeah, that’s huge- that will be the biggest ladies team sports achievement we ever have ! What a morning in Sporting Finals !!

Mostly watching Roger but keeping an eye on the Kiwi’s defense! England was so bloody lucky ! Stokes should have been out caught instead got a six as the catcher stepped on to the robe !

England should be at least 4 runs short if the ball in the final over didn’t hit Stokes’ bat and gifted him a 2 runs plus an overthrow 4 boundary ! And I just found out this morning that Stokes was actually a Kiwi! And the England team was Captained by an Irishman Morgan, how irony ?

And poor Roger, just needed 2 more good serves in either of the Championship Points in the fifth serving at 5-4, 40-15 ! And Novak won 4 points in a row on Roger’s serve ! To me I think That’s the Championship! 25 Aces and couldn’t buy one in that game !

I think if you just pick players on form , it’s very simple:

Bancroft has no runs so he has to go although he made some great catches this morning!

Warner no runs too but he is too good to be dropped and he had good World Cup form, he is Not gonna be quiet for long and when he fires, watch out! So either Khawaja or Head can open with Warner, didn’t Wade also open as well ?

Patterson made 47 not out and should be kept as an all rounder, Siddle is bowling tight and his 44 with Smith was equally important in rescuing the first inning so the only person in should be Starc !

What an Inning from England’s Ben Stokes! Single handedly bats his country to victory !

When England was 9 for 286 I thought surely we would win to retain the urns ! Then Stokes let loose and really played his shots, declining the early singles and hitting 4’s and 6’s at will then hit a single on the 5th or 6th ball to protect his no 11th and retained strike ! That’s how you win big matches and rescue the Ashes !

A few missed opportunities late in the match too but nothing like the 5 runs given in that same man Stokes’s World Cup Final, when you are hot, lucks go your way too.

There are two big factors this year which will affect heavily on the outcome of the Cup:

1. With a Soft 7 on Derby Day (currently a Soft 6 according to TAB), and more rain forecasted, how wet will be the Cup of 2019 ? the experts are saying it will improve from Saturday and at worst a Soft 5 or better. So I am assuming, the track is Not going to play a big part comes 3pm on Tuesday.

2. Can the favourite Mer de Glace ($6.50 at TAB fix odd currently) stay the two miles, the trainer could not give a definitive answer as the horse has never raced beyond 2,200 in Japan, the Caulfield Cup was the furthest he ever raced! So for that, I have done some research: as I am thinking if he can stay the two miles, he'll win !

And it will all come down to the pedigree of the horse Mer de Glace:

By Rulership out of King Kamehameha, out of KingMambo out of Mr Prospector (who was a noted sire of stayers)

Rulership and his sire and grand sire had all won up to 2,400 - King Kamehameha had also sired a winner of Tenno Sho over 3,200 metres - the Japanese equivalent of the Melbourne. Rulership is a relatively young stallion but he had also sired a Japan St Ledger winner over 3,000 metres.

But it will be on Mer de Glace's dame side where we will find more staying influences:

His dame Glacier Blue was by Sunday Silence who was a grand sire of stayers including 7 individual winners of the Tenno Sho !!

There you go I think I am fairly confident that Mer de Glace will stay the two miles and therefore, he should win !

Cross Counter $20.00 - last year's winner, after the Cup win last year, he went to Dubai and won the World Cup (3,200M with 55kg) in March this year, he then ran 4th in the Ascot Gold Cup beaten by Stradivarius by 1.75L with 57.5 kg - so I don't think weight will be an issue. Then ran 3 behind Stradivarius again in the Goodwood Cup with 61kg by 2L over 3219M - so the form has been very consistent. last run 4th in the Irish St Ledger with 61kg. So this Melbourne Cup is actually easier for him ? Top 3 for me if you want an archor bet.


2. Mer De Glace $8.25 - Caulfield Cup winner, from my other post, I am confident that he can stay, so this is the right form horse, and you can't beat Damian Lane with he is on fire !! Top 3 chance for me !

8 horse boxed.

Trifecta bet at $168.00 = 50%

First 4 at $168.00 = 10%

Cross Counter $20.00 - last year's winner, after the Cup win last year, he went to Dubai and won the World Cup (3,200M with 55kg) in March this year, he then ran 4th in the Ascot Gold Cup beaten by Stradivarius by 1.75L with 57.5 kg - so I don't think weight will be an issue. Then ran 3 behind Stradivarius again in the Goodwood Cup with 61kg by 2L over 3219M - so the form has been very consistent. last run 4th in the Irish St Ledger with 61kg. So this Melbourne Cup is actually easier for him ? Top 3 for me if you want an archor bet.


2. Mer De Glace $8.25 - Caulfield Cup winner, from my other post, I am confident that he can stay, so this is the right form horse, and you can't beat Damian Lane with he is on fire !! Top 3 chance for me !

To box 8 horses like I did would cost $336.00 (it works like 8 x 7 x 6 = $336), I usually bet half a unit = $168.00 and get 50% of the winnings.

You can certainly use your $300 bonus bet on the box trifecta and it will give you 89.28% of the winning. and then they will deduct the $300 bonus itself from the winnings.

In yesterday's case and Sportsbet will be using the Victoria toll, the trifecta was paying $2,953.40 from which your 89.28% will pay you $2,636.78 - $300 = $2,336.79 !

But the main reason I am confident with Amazing Peace is her pedigree: She is by Declaration of War out of a mare by Galileo ! And Declaration of War had just sired the Melbourne Cup winner Vow and Declare on Tuesday as well as the VRC Derby winner Warning on Saturday ! also the Queensland Oaks this year in Winning Ways !! Let's not forget Vow and Declare was beaten narrowly by Mr Quickie in the QLD Derby, so Declaration of War could have easily sired both the Queensland Oaks and Derby winner this year except for a few inches !! So he is probably the most significant sire of stayers in the current crops of race horses, and for that I am willing to put some money on Amazing Peace.

Oh well at least we will be OK by the time the FIFA World Cup is on in November 2022.
Although bloody Qatar is a stupid place to have a Football World Cup - that was the worst and most corrupt decision ever.
Maybe they should give it to Japan instead to compensate them for missing the Olympics.

May be they should send a delegation to Australia to study how we did it with the two grand finals, the Australian Open and most recently the Mardi Gras at the SCG.

There’s still a few months to go, if they plan it properly, like getting the athletes and officials to Tokyo at least a month before, quarantine and tests them accordingly, restrict the social movements inside the villages. Limited the seatings in the stadiums - all spectators have to show a negative test results before entering , etc etc. they could have a Covid safe game , they are not going to make the billions in visitors but probably can keep the other billions from TV rights, advertising and sponsorship?
